Funnily enough, Hoenn WAS my least favourite Region (I still believe that R/S/E are bottom of the barrel trash) yet I am having more fun with AlphaSapphire than I have with any Pokémon game in a long time.
The visuals are great (X/Y were too), the Routes are interesting, the writing is better, the lore is more interesting than it was in X/Y (although all the ties have helped X/Y, and I'm sure if they expand it further in X/Y, I'll enjoy it more)
There are some problems though, in particular the dispersement of Pokémon. They give us the National Dex after the 7th Gym, but I think if they gave it to use after the 4th or 5th, it gives them enough time to showcase the Hoenn Pokémon, while not overly limiting the player if they want more options. X/Y and B2/W2 were great for having large PokéDex's, and OR/AS is a noticeable step back. I found myself being bombarded with Peliper and Tentacool, just like 10 years ago, and what I felt sure as fuck wasn't nostalgia. The Sharpedo surfing idea was good though.
Not surprisingly, most of the things that shine about OR/AS are the changes from the originals, like the plot, music, new lore elements, Mauville, ect.
The post game though, THAT's disappointing. Maison bored the fuck out of me in X/Y, I am not sure I will even bother touching it again, and then what? I'm basically done...
Also, AS > OR. The Storm sequence, and admins, and general atmosphere of it al was far more convincing. In fact, with Magma not in some shit-tier retarded world-destroying plot, I could actually not see them as villains in AS. Maxie seemed like a stern scientist dude concerned about Aqua ruining the ecosystem. And when the storm sequence hits, he jumps into action, felt more heroic than fucking Steven. Shit just doesn't work the other way around. I always did prefer Sapphire, but the differences in AS are even more favourable to it. Has all the best exclusives too, bar Zekrom.
Just my opinion anyway.
