The starters are pretty great in that gen, and it spawned some of my favorite Pokemon like Rotom, Drifblim, Magnezone, Gallade, and Porygon-Z.

Physical/Special split is probably one of the best changes that franchise has ever seen. Region was fun. Solid postgame. Introduced the Masuda Method for shiny hunting. Gave us the GTS and Wifi capability for the first time.

Gen 4 gave us a ton of shit, and were objectively great for the series as a whole. It was really only brought down by the shitty battle engine being slow as balls.

This game totally brought back my love for that game after gen 3 killed it.
The Physical Special split fixed soooo many Pokemon who are our bros today.

EVs are fine but IVs kinda screw the game up, at least on an experience standpoint. People shouldn't get stuck with shitmon because they don't want to/know how to sit there and ride a bike for a week while 10,000 eggs were pouring out of that poor mon, or alter the game with a device.
Which leads to abilities. It may not have been bad at first, but, wow, they took a steaming shit on that. So many pokemon could rise or fall incredibly hard from a simple ability change. Can you imagine how fucked things would be if Slaking got huge power because someone at GF suddenly has a boner for it? IT CAN HAPPEN
Also, May a shit. I prefer Iris
Also, Ranger games a shit. Rumble was way better than those.
