Just got the game yesterday and I'm on my way to Mt. Chimney. Something feels off with this game because I rather play Emerald. I'm disappointed about there being no Battle Frontier, but I'm way past that now. My current issue is that Gym Leaders don't have their Emerald teams and there seems to be less trainers in routes than there was in Emerald version. Another issue I'm seeing with this game is that it lacks its own identity, it feels like I'm playing an X/Y romhack.

Does it get better /vp/?

I'm on my way to Fallarbor Town and my Pokemon are overleved as hell so I decided to turn off the Exp. Share (and probably won't turn it on until I beat Elite 4). My team consists of Grovyle, Pelipper, Aron and Roselia (all on 27-30 levels). I'll get Zangoose soon and the last slot will be used for Spheal.

So far I'm really impressed by music remakes (except for Rustboro's one) and some graphic details (I just love houses' interiors). The most frustrating thing I've encountered is the way Dexnav works in caves (it wouldn't be that bad if I wasn't so bad with analog stick).

I will have a lot of work to do this week so I won't go very far, eh.

There are definitely less trainers and the routes are shorter than in XY. I know that because I used the exp. share in both games (Fight me) and when I finished X, my team were all around level 70. When I finished this game they were all around 55.

Just beat the Elite Four.
I played without the Exp Share with 5 fighting mons and one HM slave/pickup artist.
I was a little shocked when Sydney sent out his first pokemon and it was a higher level than anything I had.
I barely beat Steven. It came down to his metagross against my aggron in the red. All I had left after aggron was a level 30 zigzagoon.
Even zigzagoon helped by finding a super potion between battles

I'm just not enjoying ORAS that much, and I've loved Smash Bros so I've been playing more of that. To be honest I just want to finish it as quickly as possible so I can get into the metagame stuff, which I find a lot more entertaining.

Get a steel or ground-type to cover your poison weakness.
You can catch Lairon in Victory Road. I personally like Donphan, but seemingly nobody ever uses it in-game.

I'm at Kyogre. I've SR'd twice because I want one with an acceptable nature at least but.. I might just deal with it.. Iunno.

My team is ridiculously over-leveled and I've had the Exp share off since a little after Mossdeep.

I had the experience share turned off before I fought Norman and my team still ended up being overleveled until I got to the last gym where I am now. The only reason I'm still not overpowered is because I traded out a bunch of my team members for new ones that were low leveled. If it took you that long to turn it off then I don't know how long it's gonna be before you find anything you can't OHKO.

Sharpedo is very cool. You will have fun surfing on it, as it goes sanic fast, ( Can't fish while on it though) but it will easily get rekt, so you should probably look for one with Speed Boost and some IVs if you're going for it.

So why didn't you just turn it off? You're definitely not forced to use it and once I realized how strong my team was getting I just shut it off. I like it since I can train a whole team of low level Pokemon really fast later on but they should have had the exp share get upgraded or something after the E4 to what it is now and just be the old one until then. Still, not sure if it's the game's fault or your own.

I felt the same during my X run, I breezed through the Elite 4 and the whole experience felt so underwhelming.

I kept exp share off for AS i've found it to be so much more enjoyable now i'm not breezing through everything. Definitely more satisfying to beat the gym leaders/Elite 4 when your several levels lower than them.

I haven't really been doing any grinding aside from getting new team members up to scratch. I've just been battling trainers as they come, not really doing any rematches or grinding on wild Pokes. Thus my pokes levels aren't being inflated by 'extra' grinding, if that makes sense.

I'm also OCD about keeping my pokemons levels' equal, so i've been sharing the battles to make sure everyone stays within two levels of each other. No one's become OP that way, and it means when I do need to do extra grinding after a major battle to get everyone's level equal, we're not grinding up to excessive levels.

tl;dr just gone with the flow and haven't bothered with any real extra grinding

Should add that this was the exact same strategy I used in X, but with the exp share on. I ended up OP in X (my pokes were around mid-70 around the Elite4). In AS, i've done nothing different aside from keep the exp share off, and I was always underleveled compared to the gym leader's highest Pokemon and the Champion.
