Seriously, though, the only IVs that matter are perfect 31s or in some specific cases, perfect 0s. You could remove IVs from the game entirely and competitive Pokemon would be literally no different.

IVs let each individual Pokemon feel unique. They should have just not let you breed for IVs (egg moves and natures would make breeding worthwhile), and put in an algorithm to make sure you could never have 31s across the board. (i.e, make the stats be more or less evenly distributed, with a 25-31 stat, two 15-24 stats, two 5-14 stats, and a 0-4 stat)

Learning about EVs and IVs was the best thing that happened to me for Pokemon.

For me it was the opposite.

Learning about IVs/EVs and what Natures do, killed my interest in Pokémon.

They turned from these magical mystical creatures you can bond with into nothing but numbers and values.

It's like breaking the 4th wall in a film, it ruins the immersion. You can see the camera man, the audio guy, the green screen, everything.

It's not the same.

The soul of Pokémon is gone. Those who grew up during the Pokémon craze of the late 90s will know what I'm talking about.

When you play the games now, you just know they're nothing but numbers hiding behind a sprite. It's not the same.

You might get enjoyment from beating others online, what at what cost? The enjoyment of adventure, mystery and in-game joy is completely gone.

Don't tell me you feel awkward if you catch a Modest Tauros or Adamant Alakazam. Pokémon has become prime OCD bait.

No lie I spent about 5 hours catching a horde Sheer Force Taurus, it was Modest. I spent another 8 until I finally caught a Jolly one.

I still don't care about EV/IVs because I don't battle competitively. There are plenty of ways for me to enjoy the game that don't involve battling/obsessive breeding. I prefer collecting and contests, personally. There's no "wrong" way to enjoy Pokemon.

Though I can filter that out with a little control/imagination. I don't even bother with natures in playthroughs and just use whatever comes.

For competitive just use your imagination a little and think of them as your bros/sis's and you will find happiness.

I know they exist, but I don't really understand them at all.

I understand that IVs can make a difference in how powerful a pokemon ends up (I think?) but that is about it.

I don't like the image you used to open thread, mainly because it's not pokémon related. Nothing I can do about that, 4chan is available to all type of people. As far as I know, you're an ugly pokémon casual loser that hasn't even played PokéPark 2. I don't mind EV and IV. My pokémon team isn't even meta, my team is of the pokémon I like, instead of the meta builds. Even so, I still have fun playing.

why? I breed up some good iv bros via shitto before any new playthrough and use that as my starter. That way
a) raise your bro from birth, not some pokemon a random shady dude gave you
b) post game, your bros, who've been with you through all the battles and adventures, can simply be re EV'd via reset bags, tutored a few needed moves, and voila - in game and competitive team at the same time.
Dunno about you, but I'd rather attempt to conquer the rankings with the guys I raised from lv.1.
