Not necessarily "the early games", "previous games". There are entries in the series that are much more challenging than XY and ORAS.

You know how I used to beat the old Pokemon games? I would use my starter and only my starter. I would level it up until types didn't matter anymore. I didn't even need a type advantage to sweep.

I fought Wallace in ORAS just last week. That Luvdisc of his is pretty good at forcing switch-ins with Attract+Sweet Kiss, more so if it outspeeds you.

But anon, they have been acknowledging us. Adult jokes are everywhere, and we've had a Battle Tower since Crystal for a more challenging postgame. Pokemon will never be Contra hard, but it's not like it's a Kirby game either.

Protect is hard to require and only useful for scouting at that point in the game. If you don't already know what's coming, you are probably not going to have it on your team.

Grovyle Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. Nosepass: 18-24 (47.3 - 63.1%) -- approx. 99.6% chance to 2HKO

Yeah, I hate it when people say new Pokemon games are easy. They're just as easy as they've always been, you're just getting older and smarter. Remember in the original R/S how Steven gave you a Latios with a +100 BST boosting item right after the 5th gym? I didn't even have to hunt for the Latios myself or anything! Also these remakes give you the exp share that levels up all your Pokemon in Petaburg Woods just like the originals! It's not like there was ever an EXP share that was limited to one Pokemon and given later in the game. And Ghetsis' Hydreigon in Black/White? Wow that was easy, I was incredibly overleveled thanks to the buffed EXP share and I could easily KO it in one hit! Don't bring up difficulty options either, Pokemon games have never had this and I'm sure Game Freak would never do it.

due to a fault in the AI they would use moves that were 'super effective' against your typing even if said move did no damage

although since OP is a retard he neglected to mention you can only beat Dragonite this way - who will only ever use Barrier until it runs out of PP. Barrier because psychic and weedle being weak to psychic, you know.

So basically they try to ease you in gently then ramp up things. All of Wallace's mons are at a higher level than his strongest in RS

you know what the best thing about older entries in the series was? I didn't grind, but I could still get decently challenging but beatable gym leaders instead of complete pushovers I can defeat like regular trainers. :)

Human opponents who use ingenuity instead of AI gimmickry that can be bypassed anyway through grinding (how could anyone consider single-player Pokemon "hard" when they need to apply their own extra rules to get any challenge?)

Difficulty that scales according to my level of skill, ramping up until I'm only ever winning 50% of my battles at most (why is it that when people say "challenging" they so often mean "a hinderance that I know I will inevitably overcome"?)

The ability to meet opponents in person, build mutual respect and eventually make new friends through something I enjoy (not just admiring my badges or Frontier trophies)

Pokemon is fucking glorious right now and I'm glad I can save time with EXP Share so I can reach the place where the real challenge could always be found.

Why do people say it doesn't matter that EXP share is optional? That's just like saying another game with difficulty settings is shit because you can chose easy.
Hard mode for pokemon: don't transfer over IV bred pokemon, turn EXP share off and leave EVs alone until post game.
