Its STAB coverage is good enough, resisted only by a handful of Dark and Psychic types, and it has Dazzling Gleam, Signal Beam and Shadow Ball to hit the rest. Will-O-Wisp fucks with Pursuit/Sucker Punch users and it has reliable recovery in the form of Wish.

Besides Reflect or Nasty Plot, what more could you ask for?

If Delphox was actually interesting both design wise and competively maybe I wouldn't dislike it, but we've already had far better mystical foxes and fast special attacking fire types come before it.

The Hidden Ability needs to be changed to something good.

It also needs Freeze-Dry and Thunderbolt to complete the Fire/Ice/Lightning mage spell trio.

Honestly, you could've easily switched the abilities of Greninja and Delphox and things would've fit better. Just rename Protean to Magician, and Magician to Phantasmagoria.

It's supposed to be a stereotypical RPG mage.

Give it Ice Beam, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Thunder, and maybe Earth Power and Aura Sphere. And Nasty Plot for good measure.

protean makes Kecleon great because of shadow sneak and sucker punch. I've fucked over a lot of malamar and mienshao (HJK) doing this. With assault vest it made a great mega charizard Y and greninja counter. Even better for mewtwo in battle spot for me in X/Y because it was everywhere. Sneak to avoid aura sphere and weaken and then sucker punch to kill.
