>>22110286IVs and EVs changing was a damn good thing for the series. IVs in gen 2 and 3 were borked, shiny Pokemon and gender were dependent on them. It was possible to max out EVs in all stats in 1 and 2, but the restriction to 510 EVs limits options and makes the game more strategic. You have to choose carefully what to invest in, which leads to more varied sets. Not being able to trade old mons was because of these compatibility issues, and it was a damn good thing for the series in the long run.
Don't call the other generations "fragments," no matter what you feel about them. There is no main story in Pokemon.
