Say, I'm trying to remember a very old episode. The only thing I recall from it is the ending - it ended with Team Rocket appeasing Jessie (or was it James?) and her dream of having a "doll collection" so they (James, Jessie, Meowth, and their mons) essentially dressed up as hinamatsuri dolls. I find it hilarious because they managed to sneak that up despite being Japanese-culture oriented in the days where you get jelly donuts.

Ignoring all banned eps, a season should be 52. Now if they're counting the Mega Evolution specials as part of that package, that will bring it down to 50. My Australian DVD of the first half goes up to episode 23 (not including the Mega special), and I won't know how many will be on the next set for another roughly 5-6 months.
Basically when the dub stops giving out titles, we'll know that's the end of their season.

"Pokémon: Black & White" was 48 episodes.
"Pokémon BW: Rival Destinies" was 49 episodes
"Pokémon: BW Adventures in Unova and Beyond" was 45 episodes.
They don't have a specific cutoff number, they just end it when they get close to 50 and find a decent episode they can use as a season finale.
