I also decided not to grind, so I ended up beating Red with a team of level 50s. It was pretty fun.

nah, I mean May's kawaii stance in ORAS.

May was a much better rival in oras m8, in emerald the rivals sucked hard. Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I preferred XY to gen3/5

They really improved the rivals in ORAS, both May and Wally

About the only time I thought about what I wanted on my team beforehand rather than just doing it on the fly

OR/AS was better than RSE in most aspects. The only thing it lacked was difficulty and Battle Frontier (although Emerald wasn't exactly difficult to begin with)

Better than gen5's animated jagfest for sure but overall I have a hard time saying it looks better. Also the tropical island of Hoenn sure looks great in ORAS, with all its sparse trees and slightly darker grass you can't walk through

The only thing I can think of is bringing back contests, but it's not much

Also if we're being technical, then BW didn't introduce anything. Platinum had a decent story and Crystal did animated sprites first.

ORAS was better than XY, and I enjoyed XY quite a lot. Features like dexnav and the massive ingame pokdex (as well as a stronger postgame with a better pokeleague/rival) give it a better feeling for me.

I never played GSC back then, so SS was a whole new game to me. And if it was the game I had the least fun playing because of a lot of shit that I won't develop here, it had at least three good things:
-it was immersive with those noises (wind, grass, footsteps, water)
-Bellchime Trail was one of the most beautiful location I'v ever seen in a Pokémon main series game
-I met my one true bro, the dragonslayer Mamoswine that helped me conquer the Battle Zone.

Every game has better graphics each time. It's a constant so it doesn't really count.
Megas aren't an improvement.
The only improvement and barely one must be the 3D aspect of the battles. XY are the least improved games in the franchise I think.
