Why didn't they just make them a standard evolution?

Mega Evolution just seems like the most pointless thing they have ever come up with.

Megas are better than their base counterparts in every way. It's not like they are an alternate option for battle, there is literally no reason to use the base mon over the mega.

I do agree that certain pokemon should have outright evolutions instead of mega evolutions, like steelix and glailie.

Mega Mom can now hold an item. Mega Mawile can now hold an item. Mega Gengar can now hold an item. Oh, and because they're standard evos, you can have all 3 of them on the same team.

A NFE should never be stronger than itd complete form. The only case where I think it's justifiable is Porygon2 being a defensive juggernaut compared to Porygon-Z.

Eviolite is one of the reasons why we'll never have cross-gen evolutions (besides Eevee) ever again. It ruined Little Cup too.

I was under the impression it was a way to bring old mons up to the power creep that wasn't permanent, since a lot of the gen 4 evos got a lot of hate [though honestly the only one deserving of it was lickilicky because that thing is dumb yo]

I remember reading somewhere that Lickilicky was intended to be a pre-evo instead of an evolution. It does have a bib, smaller tounge and tail so that would make sense. I guess they just quickly changed it around.

yeah, there are only 50-70 megas to choose from out of 800 or so mons but it added an extra element to battling that was enough to pique my interest.

Maybe I'm just shit and it was less restrictive beforehand but playing with mega Abomasnow in doubles and finding the perfect team to support him was the most fun I've had to date.

I can't wait to play around with mega Lopunny and Camerupt

I dunno, with the way they buffed up Knock Off isn't Eviolite already kinda crummy? I'm pretty sure they only thing that uses Eviolite these days is Chansey, and that doesn't see a ton of use either, but that's mostly because Stall in general isn't that good.

Also I'm assuming if the Megas had been normal evolutions instead, they wouldn't have had the ridiculous boosts they got. I don't think any of the gen IV evolutions got +100 BST.

I don't really mind the whole Mega idea itself, it just sucks if I, just to pick at random, really liked both Mawile and Lopunny, but I had to pick and choose which one I wanted the actually useful version of on my team. I would've preferred it if really weak mons got Mega Evolutions, and then already strong mons got the Megas as a side grade, like Garchomp or Scizor.

I like megas much more than I thought I would, the fact that you have to pick one for your team adds something new to team creation.

That said I wish they would only give megas to pokemon that are 3-stages or 2-stages but already good (e.g. Slowbro). The fact they gave pokemon like Sableye, Glalie, Banette megas really sucks because 100 BST and a new ability was not nearly enough to save them, and now they'll never get a legitimate evo. GF can't even give them new abilities to make them less shit now because megas have set abilities. Sableye is the only decent one out of that group and he will only get worse and worse over time as more fairies are introduced and the power creep goes further.

Charizard or Beedrill are IMO the perfect examples of a good mega- taking a competitively irrelevant but cool pokemon and making it relevant again. Sure Beedrill's stats are still too shit to ever be OU but at least he's usable in some way now.

Would you still use Lucario if it had a 625BST standard evolution with Adaptability?

Anyways, many Pokemon with megas already have 500+ BSTs - making them standard evolutions would put them in the same league as legendaries, which is dumb. Mega evolution is more like a short, intense burst of power for a Pokemon, and that fits flavor-wise.

Why didnt electivire and magmortar get megas? In gen 2, electibuzz and magmar got babbu's, in gen 4 they got evolutions, you'd think GF would continue the trend and give them megas, but no.
