Here we hold a Monotype tournament where you can compete to be a gym leader in the upcoming gym leader challenge!
This tournament will be ran on OR/AS and shall begin on the 3rd of January.

that's what I do, anyway
of course there is some luck involved with the matchups but that goes for basically any tournament
you aren't paired up against types that are immune to your type though, ie no electric vs ground, poison vs steel etc

I used a Bronzong with Levitate and a Fire Resistance Berry to defeat most faster fire threats by using Trick Room and deciding to either Explode to sweep with Empoleon or Mawile, or attempt a sweep myself before exploding, as well as Scarf Mold Breaker Excadrill.
But it is true, your megas will help a lot. Though don't be mistaken, I'll enter a lot of matches with my trio of synergy.
Empoleon, Skarmory, and Excadrill as a solid 3 core.

I should also mention that flame body talonflame is still incredibly useful. It's fast enough that you will likely still go first with brave bird or flare blitz, both are deadly with this mon. Gale wings is too powerful. It essentially gives fire and flying a nearly insurmountable advantage over types weak to them. Unless the other team has dedicated an entire member of their team to try to counter one mon which they can expect to be on only 1/9th of all teams.

Even then, with my core I might be able to just switch to a more favorable match up after the opponent has already like a Pokemon due to underestimating Emp.

Empoleon, or any poke for that matter, is not perfect. Teammates make the team. Opponents will be wary, allowing for the prediction game to determine matches.
Your wits against mine. Will I switch and be allowed a free switch to a counter? Will I stay anticipating you to predict my switch and potentially cripple you for it?

Previous mention in the thread were requests for replays of the old mono games. I only have a few replays from Season 3 when I tried to fight the gyms with a mono bug team. I have more but can only share 10 at a time. Also, I didn't bother watching the replays so I may have made stupid moves.
