Individuals with Asperger's syndrome, for example, are usually able to function independently and may even learn to lead completely normal lives, but are still placed on the autism spectrum. It's fairly common knowledge that Satoshi Tajiri, the man who came up with Pokemon in the first place, has autism and tends to avoid the public eye because of it. Autism is honestly about as worthless a label as 4chan would have you believe, mostly because of how screening for both the behaviors and brain abnormalities associated with it has improved over the past few decades.
And Courtney's tantrum during the Delta Episode, tearful breakdown not too long afterwards, and the given reasoning behind both matches with how people with autism tend to display very little emotion until something triggers a disproportionate response.
