The whole thing with how early on in the show they had TRio seem like a bunch of villains because they were using all of their Pokemon at once was hokey because it's not like they're having real matches.
But now they've run into a totally different kind of problem, which is them just giving up when their Pokemon get beaten instead of just sending out the other ones they have strapped to their belts, or just sending them all out at once. Funny thing is that Ash actually bothered doing that in BW at least once.
