Sure, some are really decieving of the Pokemon's origins (Garchomp particularly rubs me the wrong way), but it's not official or anything.. just let the man do his thing. At the very least, his technical skill ain't too shabby.

I think Giratina as a centipede is alright, it's probably the thing it looks the most like.
I don't really have a problem with Vanilluxe being a bug either, they don't look like anything organic in the real world so I don' t mind him being creative.

Making Meganium a tortoise is weird though.

It's fucking incredible what this person has done. He's taking fictional animals, and many fictional non-animals and turning them into ACTUAL, REAL, FUNCTIONING organisms. None of that bullshit hand-waving magic. Real things that have real working physiology. That's why some of these are not what you'd expect. Because he's making REAL shit out of FAKE and absolutely ABSURD shit. It's an interesting project.

Was gonna say the same. There are only a few I think are shitty (Garchomp being the main one) and even then I don't know what I would have done better, design-wise. The ways he made the Vanilluxe line and Giratina work are fantastic. This art is cool specifically because he re-imagines them as actual animals- if you just want normal Pokemon art there is a shitload on the internet.

My point is, he starts with assuming that each Pokemon is a real working animal, be it a derivitave of an existing species or something very similar.
The Gengar line is cool because they're hyper-evolved bat's that take advantage of hypothetical lore-- they're not ACTUALLY ghosts, but their habitat and biology led people to start myths about them and assume them to be. Like real world unicorns and shit.

It's not accurate to the source material, sure, but it's not trying to be. Just a re-imagination that obviously took thought.

Need a citation on that. Besides, the problem with the Giratina design is, he made Reshiram look vaguely dragon-like, Aggron originally looks like a dinosaur, the Eevee evolutions look like foces/dogs/whatever.

Why couldn't he have given Giratina, a DRAGON, dragon-like features? Don't get me wrong, some of these are great, but some of the choices are strange.

If I remember correctly, his Dragonite isn't flying. It's almost entirely aquatic. I could be wrong, though.

Still, they're not absolutely accurate, but they're pretty damn close. For the vast majority of them, their muscular structures are accurate, anatomy is well and powers are explained to a reasonable degree. They feel very much alive.

I know you can't comprehend what imagination is, but seriously.

He's not basing the drawings off specific typings m8. The aesthetic of giratina is in no way of that of the traditional "lizard with wings" dragon. Plus he's already made of bunch dragon looking things, the artist obviously wants to explore different designs with his art.

That's fair. There are some the rub me the wrong way too (Groudon and Garchomp in particular), I just see people get weirdly up in arms against Arvalis, when all I see is just some dude putting his own personal spin on things.

Groudon is definitely not an ankylosaurid. Arvalis said he described Tyranitar with an ankylosaroid bent, but I see more armored croc and croc-like animal in it. Reminds me of Desmatosuchus.

I really don't see what people complain about. The objective is to make them look like animals, so it's sensible to find an animal that closely resembles them and base it off of that, regardless of how odd the choice is. It's neat that they find ways to make shit like Gastly and Vanillite work using animals as well.

It's because there's two ways to make Pokemon realistic: you could go his way, basing the mons off of real world animals, or the other way, which you just take the design of a Pokemon and just making it realistic without basing it on the animal.

For example, his Gastly is a bat, but he cleverly makes the ears look like eyes. I think people expected Gastly to be an actual ball of gas.
