If I get my own high IV shiny Pokémon, then it is MY Pokémon that I got myself. If I just get some clone from a random giveaway out of thousands, it just feels completely artificial. Others may disagree or even think I'm a retard for that opinion, but that's how I feel.

I'm even willing to wait for the next Manaphy event rather than getting it from a random giveaway thread on /vp/ for that reason.

Problem is that cheating in some cases almost forces other people, who would rather not cheat, to cheat in order to keep up. This was somewhat remedied in Gen6 with high IV's becoming easier to get. Not to mention that some people, despite common belief, does not have access to cheating, at least not without the help of others. It's not fair to those people.

And some people would rather compete with the Pokémon they actually caught in the game. Having artificial Pokémon for the sake of standing a chance might alienate those people from competitive play on cartridge all together.

Only for hacking Cartridges, PowerSaves pretty much used for digital copies (or so I heard). Also, Legendaries don't have the luxury of breeding; so there your reason to hack right here.

I personally think that GF should've introduced easier ways to get high IV's earlier. Even if people were on a somewhat even playingfield before cheating became prominent, getting high IV's were based way too much on luck for it to be completely fair in a competitive sense. Cheating became the norm thanks to this, and nowadays the thought of NOT cheating for competitive play is absurd for a lot of people.

The sole problem is the fucking speed stat. A Pokemon with good IVs all around is only marginally weaker than a perfect Pokemon, outside of speed. If it were me, I'd just remove it altogether and make speed fixed by species.

Well my side of this is that looking at a pokemon as a piece of game data is like looking at a dungeons and dragons figure as just a piece of plastic. Its extremely out of the spirit of being immersed in the fantasy world a video game is trying to provide. I don't think autism should be associated at all with having an innocent sense of immersion and sentimental enjoyment out of those bytes because that sentiment and immersion is encouraged and enjoyed by millions in pretty much any game worldgame medium thats been crafted.

In chess, you get the same exact pieces as your opponent. It's a game designed to test your strategy by levelling the playing field.

Pokemon has practically unlimited "pieces" to choose from. Even the same Pokemon can have vastly different roles. Pokemon was specifically created so that no two teams would be exactly the same.

Someone's Pokemon team is a reflection
of their personality and preferences. The only time it's remotely comparable to chess is when both players have the same copy-pasted Top Six OU team, and even then it just becomes a dice roll.

Both "DVs" and "IVs" are fan terms for a concept that didn't have an official English term (I'm not sure if it has one these days or not). The only difference is that the term Individual Values became more commonly used halfway through gen 2.

Even if its not completely fake afterwards the point is its not FULLY legit anymore. Thats the sacred ground you don't ever want to ever give up. Once it loses complete authenticity and its been tampered with the value goes to shit because you can't honestly say its completely authentic anymore.

I've never "cheated" in a pokemon game before 6th gen, but now I do use powersaves for the ivs. (Don't care much for most shinies). I do it because whether I breed or use powersaves, the result will end out the same. I can already breed for natures and ivs, it just takes too much time and luck that I don't have time for sometimes. I just cut out the middle man and get straight to the end goal with powersaves

I'd say even RNG abuse makes the pokemon non authentic. It's clearly not something that was intended for you to be able to do. It makes getting pokemon with good stats far easier than otherwise. You need the help of third party software to do it.

They can't say shit if the ID isn't the same. Some other trainer with the same name could have easily gotten it. Or you could have on a different save.

Also you can use powersave to alter the PID now. You just have to change the IVs afterwards as it screws those over.

anyone who talks about hacking "devaluing pokemon" is a complete joke and not worth listening to. pokemon isn't a fucking economy system and will never be one, and if it was it'd be an online MMO with server-side save data.

pokemon is awful as a competitive game, but what other options do we have? there are literally zero RPGs / TCGs that come even close to Pokemon's depth and even if it were, it wouldn't have the character designs and appeal that Pokemon does.

Like even if the shiny hatches and you haven't touched it with a cheat device yet, its still possible it might not be pure because technically, that baby according to the imagined rules of that situation inherited its parents genes. And if those genes it inherited were generated originally from a cheat device well, thats not legit at all either

Most people do not have an authentic shiny pokemon. Most of the ones you see are worthless as a collectors item. Competitively fine, yes. Collectible or worth bragging about, no.

He now has the tools to get perfect IV Pokemon in legit ways but decides to continue using the Ditto since it would be easier to just keep one Pokemon in the Day Care than having to switch every time you breed a new Pokemon. Would that still be considered cheating by people even if said trainer already worked his ass off to get 7 hexaperfect Pokemon that would cover all egg groups?

I would consider it cheating to an extent. The 6iv ditto isn't legit, so you're using non-legit methods to create viable pokemon, the same way a powersaver would just flat out put 5-6 ivs on their pokemon. The only difference is that the ditto method takes longer

it's not a big deal. collection of pokemon should be about the process, the trials. I get that and I'm not about to hack a complete dex for myself.

I have an army of Synchronize Kadabras in Y that I used to catch the appropriate nature 2IV Dittos in Friend Safari. I then used those 2IV Dittos (I even caught a 3IV one!) to chain breed with Pokemon I like, working up to several 3-4 IV Pokemon for a team. 3-4 perfect IVs is good enough for me, though I put in the extra work to breed 5IV Venusaur because he's my dude.

Tell yourself whatever you want to make yourself feel better about cheating, but the fact is Pokemon would be a lot more fun if teams accurately represented the people using them, and how much those people care about their mons. There's a reason pre-bank XY meta was so much fun.

Powersave is only 30 bucks, go do a taste test or a focus group or some shit, easy money and you don't have to sit through hours of pressing buttons.

GF should just have an expansion to Super Training that allows you increase/decrease a pokemon's IVs when they reach a certain level, max out their EVs and/or you progress past a certain part of the game.

I understand what you're saying about having to match the competition, but that's exactly the problem. When it's easy to gen prefect Pokemon, everybody HAS to do it to stay competitive; if there were no easy way to hack perfect Pokemon into the game, we'd be fighting with our imperfect but unique Pokemon.

Basically, engaging in cheating is understandable, but the fact that cheating exists at all is bullshit.

just made the point that I as going to respond with. A lot of people just don't have the time to do things that way, let alone for a full 6 pokemon team. I'm assuming most of us are young adults here, we simply want to play the game. I'm not trying to defend cheating, but people take it way out of proportion. They act like fixing ivs on a pokemon is some game breaking, 100% win rate thing, when in reality all it does is achieve the same results breeding would, but faster. It would be one thing if someone hacked movesets/abilities onto a mon, but it's literally just ivs. It doesn't guarantee anything, you still have to be good at the game to play and even then you'll still win or lose at the same rate

It's just a game, guys. Legit perfect shinies are badges of honor, but only to people who care. If it matters to you, breed them yourself like I do, if it doesn't just cheat to get them. The only place legitfags get screwed is with legendaries, but even those can be fudged to be close enough thanks to guaranteed 3 IVs.

I agree. MMing - in some strange way - is oddly fun. Sure, I have a 6IV Japanese Ditto I got from /shw/ about a year ago (it's probably hacked, I don't really care) but the fun is really about catching a female with the HA in a ball you like, breeding four good egg moves onto the babies, and then breeding your four egg move balltism bro with the Ditto and getting that unique perfect 5IV (or even 6IV on a few occassions) shiny Pokemon for your team , or for Amie or just for funsies. All the Ditto gives you is a shortcut for the IVs, the real challenge are the egg moves and HA.

Only thing that pisses me off a little about cheating is stuff like that faggot I heard about who used a pokemon in a non-legit ball? In a Dream Ball or some shit? I don't really follow competitive stuff, but yeah, that's annoying.

You can very clearly see what ball an opponent's Pokemon comes out on, so since Ludicolo/Politoed can't have their HA in a HGSS ball, it should give the player information on what their abilities are

Obviously in VGC it's pretty obvious what abilities those 2 in particular will have, but it's still technically cheating, and there are some other Pokemon where it would really matter

Personally I prefer to get all my Pokémon myself, especially given now that it's completely reasonable to hatch perfect Pokémon, and catch almost perfect legendaries, in a matter of hours.
On the other hand, focusing on the strategy more than the obtaining is always nice, and I wouldn't criticise others if they choose to 'cheat'.

The reason they let Rizzo off is because at the time there was nothing mentioned in the ToS about the offsprings being hacked. Since now they've updated it to where if they are, you're kicked out.

So more or less Rizzo exploited a loophole in the Terms of Service without knowing he did
