He never abandoned the hardcore though, there was an interview during the Wii times where he or someone said they debated whether they had gone too far into making games for the new audience. He just made the games he wanted to make, he was fired up for the Wii it was his idea, games like Wii Music were envisioned way back before release.

Masuda contradicts himself completely with the maison. It's just as ballbusting as frontier, just less gimmicky. It was obviously to cover up a lack of time and resources to make it. It doesn't mean he won't "change his mind" for sequels.
