rock and ground are now one typing how does this play?
How are its type match ups with
things like
Electricity?
or perhaps
grass/watter?

Hard earth vs soft earth, cold stone vs rich soil, diamonds vs sand, bricks vs mud etc etc etc.

Now, what makes Dark different from Fighting or Normal; THATS the real question.

Dark are tricks, Fighting is martial arts, and Normal is just average,

Why has no one brought up yet that Ice is just solid water.

most Dark type moves have some gimmick that screams "I wish the very worst for you". Flinch, lower stats, knock off item, prevent from using non-attacking moves, etc. Fighting is more honorable, and most secondary effects aren't too devastating or 'cheap'. They also have some drawbacks, like accuracy or recoil. Normal in my mind is just the miscellaneous typing.

This reboot of the types from ages ago explains it quite nicely;
Fighting energy like Aura or Chi is from the body.
Psychic energy is solely from the mind.
kind of like Hamon and Stands, respectively

I've always looked at Ice as simply Cold type; moves include freezing winds and mists, which could easily be Flying type moves, but because they're freezing they're Ice.
Same with Ice Beam, its main property is its temperature, whereas Water moves may have added properties but they're still water in liquid form.

Rock and Ground should have always been one typing, and just call it "Earth". maybe even add Steel, but not really.

Same goes with Water and Ice.

Type chart should be tweaked:

Rock/Ground -> Earth
Bug/Grass -> Grass
Fairy/Psychic -> Magic
Dark/Ghost -> Dark

You would need to tweak weaknesses/resistances, but it'd make things simpler.
