>>22156892Jesus these threads are like reading youtube commentary. People who clearly haven't watched the show in ages, or anime for that matter.
There is no fucking reason to change the protagonist when they would all have the same hot blooded shonen personality. With Ash you at least have history and development (yes, development, every season except BW), so everything he accomplishes has more meaning than if they just threw the protag away every season. And if every season had them winning, why the fuck would you watch? It would be boring as shit.
The point of the anime isn't to just emulate the games, it's to be entertaining. It's a separate entity with its own protag. How the fuck is having new friends inconsistent? They picked a character who travels to new regions and meets new people.
Most importantly, it's GOOD for a character to have flaws. Who the fuck wants to watch some mary sue faggot win everything for no reason like in Origins? This kid didn't bond with any of his pokemon, it was just two hours of charizard beating things up. Ash lost in Kanto because he was horribly unprepared, and he's done better in every league so far (except BW, the retarded reset saga). Watching a flawed character progress is more interesting. XY
Changing Ash wouldn't make the anime better. Also, it hasn't been 20 years in the show. There were around 800 episodes at the start of XY, which could be just around 2 or 3 years, and XY Ash fits into that elapsed time.
