I don't get why the whole attitude of
>caring about story in pokemon games
is so prevalent.
I feel like Gen 5 gets shit on a lot because of it's heavier story focus but how is that really a bad thing? What's wrong with trying to have a more ambitious plot in the main campaign?
I'll admit, BW's story is far from perfect and did feel incredibly forced at points, mainly when replaying and you're being dragged through the exposition. But it was fresh and it was more engaging than going through the normal gameplay and then dealing with the evil team before badge 8 and then going on as normal. It was neat seeing gym leaders out of their gyms and taking on more signifcant roles aside from cameos here and there, and seeing your professor out in the field. Bianca and Cheren were pretty neat as well even though their development was pretty rudimetary.
And on the flip side, XY had shit-all in the way of story and characters and suffered for it. Absolutely nothing in kalos held any weight or felt meaningful whatsoever, most of the NPCs feel like they don't even care, Prof. Sycamore especially.
Inb4 hur its a kids game, that can excuse simple characters and simple development but not a lack of focus and shit writing.
