I have seen people collect shinies, complete pokedex, be picky about nature and IV's, heck even picky of what pokeball their pokemon should be in.

But i barely see people have a ribbon pokemon. Tell me /vp/, now that contests returned in ORAS, do you have a ribbon pokemon?

I think the problem was, was that in like BW/2 they didn't even give a shit about ribbons. They kinda got pushed into the back of the info screens too.

Since there's so many old ones that you can't get any more, its hard to "Get them all" too.

Right now my two top ones are my MYSTRY Mew from Emerald (who's got a few Gen 3 contest ribbons; champ ribbons from RSE, DPP and XY) and my Blaziken in ORAS. Both now have a full set of the daily ribbons

Too bad its docile (neurtal), but with decent IV's. In pokemon XD you could not check natures on shadow pokemon. Oh well it could have a worse nature.

I had to delete its exclusive extrasensory move for contest purposes and wasn't usefull anyway because i EV trained it on def and sp def. for mind eye+sheer cold. luckly its base defensive stats are high to begin with.

I just always used it as my HM fly party pokemon in all pokemon games. You could say this is the oldest pokemon i kept and used after all these years.

I just wished i properly did the battle tower thing in gen 3. Those two battle memory ribbons are from gen 4.

Battle Tower in original gen 3 was a pain. First the level was not automaticly set to Lv. 50. Your opponents pokemon would have the same level as the highest pokemon you used on your team.

Second, attack and sp attack was was based on pokemon type instead that each move individually catagorized. That became a new thing in gen 4. Thats why i decided to go with a defensive pokemon and cheap tactic like 1hit KO moves.

Third, it was not until gen 4 that i actually gave a damn about nature, IV's and EV's since online gameplay became a thing.

contests are less about the actual talent round than anything else. The introduction all but guarantees a win unless you have really bad luck because a majority of the talent round is decided by chance, whether your opponents use the right moves and screw you over or help you out and so much of it is out of control

It's really not that out of your control. Contests in a sense are just a different type of battle. Sure sometimes you can get fucked over unexpectedly but once you do a few contests it's not hard to figure out how they work.

It's all about knowing how to pay your position in the line up the best way. Trainers almost always try to raise the crowds excitement in the last two rounds depending on how close it is.

For the golden contest memory ribbon do we need to get every master ribbon from the gen III and IV contests or is it enough to do it in one region? I don't fully understand your question or what you mean with "golden contest memory ribbon"

But i can say this with certainty.
All gen 3 and gen 4 contest ribbons will be displayed as one ribbon. The "contest memory ribbon [insert amount]. Same goes for the battle ribbons

Which kinda sucks.

Once you've reached Master with one pokémon you don't have to climb the ranks again to do it with another pokémon, you can just go straight to master. I completed all master ranks with different pokémon to get the decoration Lisia gives you and then later did them all with Reuniclus. It becomes a bit harder after the first time though because once you've done all the master ranks once Lisia will show up during contests and her Altaria is an asshole

I've been wanting to get into ribbon autism, but I'm not sure how to approach it.

I seldom had a single favourite Pokémon in a playthrough, so in Emerald I used different bros for different contests. I was too casual back then to challenge the Battle Tower, and I only skirted Gen IV since I never liked it, so none of my old Pokémon have any of those ribbons.

I could start over and decide to win all the ribbons available in X/Y and ORAS with one or two pentagon Pokémon. I still don't have any singular favourite though, and each of my bros and fully trained 'mons plays a different role. Some were in-game or post-game bros, others became trusted allies over the course of many multiplayer battles, and yet others I bred and raised because I liked them, but they haven't seen much use yet.

How do I choose a candidate among all these?
Or should I fix my battery in Emerald, RNG for a pentaperfect, and start over at the very beginning with a new Pokémon of a species I like?

Well fuck me. I did the same thing as you, with an Ampharos from Colluseum. Although mine is far less impressive.

Just yesterday, I got every single Ribbon there is in OR/AS. Plus the National Ribbon (Purified Orre-mon Ribbon)

However, I don't have any of the Kanto/Johto/Sinnoh/Unova/Kalos Ribbons, as the Ampharos just kinda' went straight from Colosseum to OR/AS, but I'll stick with this sis, and maybe someday, after the next few remakes/new games, I'll have my Amphy be as impressive as your Articuno.

Well since i can't see it back anymore in current gen, i cannot tell you for sure. Not to mention it was a damn long time ago.

All i know is it was maxed at Beauty and Coolness. So surely i had master rank for that in gen 3 and 4. The rest were small ribbons just to get a high amount. I do remember winning a another master catagory because i got real lucky.

But to pull that off the legit way seems almost impossible IMO.

I mean pokeblocks and pokepuffs were limited. Food likes and dislikes were greatly affected by nature.

it was really easy. water spout is one of his egg moves so i did the super double battles and mega waterspouted everything and had a follow me Togekiss to take the damage. the other two i brought with me were a gale wings talonflame and a brave ferrothorn

I tried super single battles with a focus sash gengar with destiny bond. Worked great until i got trick roomed and lost at battle 40 or something. =(

go for a gen6. much less frustrating for getting pokeblocks and such. also it's easier to get perfect ivs, a good looking pokeball, and all the egg moves you want. also you get a pentagon so you can use your bro in online battles

I had this problem too. in the room where you get the daily ribbon at, go to the right and the woman is in the corner. you cant see her when you first go in.

shit drove me crazy because i checked every room.

(daily ribbon girl is the first openable door on the top side when you go into Mauville Hills)

My ribbon pokemon is my shiny Mew that I RNG'd abused on Japanese emerald. Because I didn't have the materials to get max contest stats in Gen 3, I instead worked on them in Gen 4. I used this recipe, and forced 3 other family members (My spouse and I have 5 DS/3DS between us both) to play the dumb berry mix game. My dumbass sister kept burning the poffin, so I only got near max stats.

I need to get:
Relax Ribbon (Friday)

Hoenn Champion Ribbon (forgot to do it before I transferred Mew to Gen 4, was just too excited)
Contest Star Ribbon (disappointed the other ranks no longer award ribbons...but what can you do)

I probably will not max the remaining contest stats because I got as far as I did with near-max stats. It just feels weird to max it after all that trouble getting near-maxed caused me.

I'll probably work on the X&Y + ORAS ribbons for any shiny pokemon I'm really attached too, at least. I may also hatch a RNG abuse a shiny houndour (in a moon ball) in Gen 4 to get all the contest ribbons again from the extra poffin in the my other games just because Houndour is my favorite pokemon. Only problem is I'll have to do the battle tower for Houndour unlike Mew because it's banned from competing.

The paintings in R/S/E were GOAT. The way they stylised the sprites for them to blend with the background was great. Everything fit so perfectly, they really looked like unique paintings.

Now in ORAS, they just slap an unaltered still of the 3D model onto a shitty photoshop background.

At least you can make your own by taking photos during the contests, I guess.

You can do any contest at any one, they're just there so you dont have to fly across Hoenn after reteaching moves in Fallarbor or something like that.

Yes but it'll be a little harder since you have less tms to choose from before the E4

In original R/S, every contest rank was specificly in a certain city. Slateport was normal rank and Li;ycove was Master Rank. But ORAS every rank is accesable in every hall. I think its just there pure as reference to the old game.

Yes you can do different pokemon or same pokemon. The second floor of the museums you will see 3 painting spaces of each contest catagory. Meaning you fill them by winning each master rank catagory 3 times. As a reward the museum guy will give you the glass bird sculpture replica for your secret base.

This is chance determained. Chance is increased when using rare berries.
