Well they really give it no chance. Instead of handing it out or having it be a relevant Mon they kept it event. Like have it show up in the N battles alongside the area mon

Plus they should have made a total prick recurring Pokemon in the Anime

If it were black and white one as a side quest similar to riolu in diamond/pearl without having to use mystery gift, it would have worked much better

I feel like the next one is gonna be a fairy typed dingo or something.

It really isn't. The damage was already done at that point. Popularity wise it had already been obscured.

Lucario had a movie where it was given a strong personality and gimmick, a gym appearance, a Champion appearance and was a free give away in the story

Well in a way yes but more villainous like Team Rocket level of shenanigans. Like actively being a cunt, defying the whole Pokemon are naturally good.

And hell this is the Anime they repeated that shit anyway may as well have it be a change. By the time N rolls around they could link it together then

I don't care what Masuda said, the fact that they presented Gen 6 mons to Sakurai before XY was out means they had some influence in Greninja getting into Smash, Ash is probably going to end up with Greninja, they gave it one of the best abilities ever, and then they made it even better in ORAS.

Smash inclusion a matter of external force. Saying it's official push is as if Christopher Nolan made a popular short film about Greninja because he felt like it and later blaming Gamefreak for its popularity. The only instance of actual push was made to capitalize with the Smash inclusion with the Smash Greninja ORAS giveaway. It was still popular as hell everywhere you looked before it.

>No movies about it
>No anime or manga appearances
>No in-game plot importance or forced use
>No additional merchandise in comparison to other starters (except for future Amiibo, which is simply a side benefit from Smash stardom)

As of February 2014 it was already voted amongst the best Pokemon in big polls like those of Dorkly and IGN. I don't see why everyone always resorts to the MUH FORCED POPULARITY card. It's as if its inconceivable that things can get popular in their own merits.

Ummm... what? I can't give too much flak about Lucario because, to be honest, i wasn't too internet aware back then. But as for personal experience, none of my Pokemon playing friends knew anything about Lucario before the movie. After the movie everyone WAS looking for it because we thought it was a legendary Pokemon. Dissapointment ensued when it didn't turn out that way. But didn't the movie come out before the games, though? Let me check.

Nope. Zoroark taught them that Lucario was a one-time thing that can't be replicated.

Zoroark's failure to catch on made them just stick with Lucario.

Lucario was a huge hit from the moment he was revealed in CoroCoro.
