Its lack of recovery options make a "get in, hit hard and fast" playstyle much more viable than one that would be more defensive. Like, it could work, but that lack of recovery would leave him helpless to getting knocked out by the barrages of faster attackers.

I used to run Assault Vest MGross in the pre-ORAS meta, wasn't bad at all, though.

A counter needs to be a Pokemon that can take ANY hit the opposing Pokemon can deal and either outspeed and OHKO back or survive a second and OHKO. (That's why some sets can have counters, but not the pokemon as a whole)

Balloon Chandelure could switch in on an EQ and threaten to OHKO back, yes, but that relies on prediction. It can't take any other hit, though, as that'd break the balloon thus opening up a weakness to EQ. As such, it's not a counter.

I think that sort of illustrates why not having a Counter isn't indicative of a Pokemon being broken. You can totally play around it.

Most common set is Jolly+4 moves. You're good.

It's easier to fit on a team IMHO, just because you dont have to rely on team support quite as much. Hydreigon+Meta core is a pretty slick combo.

Bronzong can take hits from Megagross like a champ and can set up screens or Trick Room while Megagross switches out most of the time. Just watch out for the occasional Hammer Arm which can put quite a dent if your defense isn't physically oriented.
