I've got 709 Pokemon in my dex. Managed to complete it through GTS trading.
Still missing a few event legendaries: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Meloetta, Keldeo, and Genesect.
Don't know how I'm going to get those, though.
Still, at least it's near complete. It's the best I've ever done with the Pokedex in any generation.

Can't trade them until the hack block over wifi is lifted once their officially distributed. Hoopa was oddly unblocked for a few days a few weeks back, but got blocked again.
If you don't mind spending $30 on a PowerSaves, I recommend it. It can do a lot more for you than get you Hoopa and Volcanion

I'm not autist enough to ever actually finish a Pokedex. I always pussy out halfway. I like that lately GameFreak rewards you for just seeing all of the Region Dex Pokemon because that feels like something more basic to work towards.

211 caught, 305 seen. All I need to complete the "seen" Hoenn Dex is Blaziken and Kyogre.

Also, the Kalos page of the Pokedex is sort of depressing since it only takes up half of a page.

GTS is useful. Friends to trade with is useful.

It's honestly not too hard. Just start with Pokémon available in the wild, and do it in segments. It seems like a large number, but trust me, it goes down pretty quickly.

the reason you see random shitmons available asking for legendaries is that all realistic trades are made pretty fast.

Put up a shitmon or a breeding leftover and ask for a non-legendary and you will have it within a few hours

I've managed to catch and evolve every Pokemon available in Alpha Sapphire except the ones that involve trading or friendship. I'm currently catching all the missing Pokemon I can in X, then I'll transfer them over and trade for the remaining evolutions/exclusives. I'm going to dread when I have to do the friendship evolutions though.

I completed it shortly after Bank was out. After I got OR, all I did was transfer from Bank where I was keeping my living Pokedex to my game and immediately had it full so I could go and enjoy other stuff in Hoenn.

I have the opposite problem with you guys. I completed the dex in XY (not a living dex), after I got them all registered I released all the ones I didn't "need". I have all the legendaries, but not a ton of stuff like Beautifly and Huntail.

I've completed the XY pokédex by GTSing shit.
When I've transferred my mons to ORAS I could only fill half of the dex.

Biggest mistake.
But now I've learned my lesson and completed the pokédex by GTSing doubles and keeping at least every final evo so when the next games come out I will only need to breed for the base forms. In a way I'm slowing getting a living pokédex.
