Hi /vp/, I was bored so I crawled google results and did a ranking of girls' most popular favorite pokemon. I used 278 forum, blog posts and comments from videos (taken in order of google results, no double count, traps excluded).

I remember reading somewhere that girls preferred mew and boys went with mewtwo during gen1/height of 1st movie's popularity. Of course, I ain't got no source, but seems to fall in line with typical gender stereotypes.
For the record, my GF likes fire pokemon, including charizard. My sister likes jigglypuff and zard too. So maybe this is a case of nostalgia talking. Neither has played anything recent.

What surprised me the most is how Plusle+Minun ranked rather high despite being pikaclones. I even stumbled upon a few girls who wrote fanfics about Plusle or "wants to become" Plusle.
