Steelix was a top tier wall back in gens 2 through 3 though. I was a little nooblet during Gens 1 to 5 and missed these glory days, but we had our 15 minutes of fame.

It hurts that instead of something we desperately needed, like Recover, we got a top tier designed Mega that's actively worse than the base form, but there's nothing to do to change that now.

All those lost opportunities of Onix line being based on a snake rather than a worm. Would be as acceptable as Aggron now with Coil and Glare. Would have given Steelix Mirror Coat too.

Onix is decent in the first generation games, especially if rest is taught at a low level.

The only two stats that Onix has that are higher than Pidgey are Speed and Defense, while the speed difference is pretty minor.
