I mean, it's heavily implied that Courtney and Maxie had been working together towards the same goal for a hell of a long time, expanding the Earth surface being their life goal. Then the man who she has admired all her life suddenly turns around and gives up on their mission, without giving her an explanation.
Add that to her ultra autism and you get someone who has just lost everything she was fighting for, her hopes and dreams, plus the dissapointment of Maxie changing.
