Too lazy to mention everything, but there quite a few references to real-life animals in pokemon. NPCs mention crabs, 'dex entires mention how some 'mons match up against real-life animals, etc.

Actually that use can only apply to OFFICIAL female/male pokemon. Examples are Latias,latios, gallade, braviary, jynx, kangaskhan, the hitmons et.al. Using it otherwise just makes you seem foolish
