I'm currently working on breeding a competitve shiny Greninja. This is my first time completing the National Dex and attempting to get into the competitive scene.

Haven't had any luck which is a good thing since I'm still breeding with a Greninja that is only 3/4 max IVs.

I just hope that when I get a shiny it has Protean as it's ability since there isn't a 100% way to pass on a HA right?

If the female has its HA, then I think it has a 60% chance of passing down its HA, and an 20% chance of passing down either of its normal abilities (HA chance becomes 80% if the Pokemon only has one normal ability, like Froakie does).

Also, what two Pokemon are you using for breeding right now? Which one is your foreign Pokemon? What are their IV spreads? That could have something to do with why you're not getting the best offspring.

You COULD, but it won't pass down the ball it's in (if you care about that), and it has a significantly smaller chance of passing down the HA. You're much better off trying to hatch a female with the HA than settling for a male.

Not sure how far I am for Mudkip between X and AS, but it's bound to be over a thousand or so.

What is the best method of getting shinies in ORAS? I have never had any luck with breeding or chaining, only two random encounters (Patrat in Black and Psyduck in Black 2), I might try devote some time to getting a shiny this Xmas.

Easiest is fish chaining, but it's so cheap that shiny fish are basically worthless. Second best is DexNav chaining, but PLEASE look up what it is first so that you don't end up like one of those people who comes on /vp/ and complains about how DexNav chaining is "fake"

Fuck you prick it is fake. I am on a chain of 555 and I haven't gotten a single shiny from it. I also got to a chain of 250 and then 151 for Poochyena and got nothign too.

DEXNAV IS A MYTH, PEOPLE JUST KEEP GETTING LUCKY BECAUSE OF THE LOW LOW ODDS ON SHINIES THIS GEN

Nah, you can encounter other pokemon AS LONG AS IT'S BY SNEAKING. If it's a random encounter and not from a shaking bush then it will break.

It's easy to tell because every 5 pokemon the level will go up by 10, thats how you see if it's broke.

Except I have watched 3 guides on chaining and I know I am doing it right, yet I get no shiny.

Face it, these people that chain get shinies varying from 9-400+, and people here SRing legends get from like 3-1,000+. It's as random as SRing and that's definitely not chainign so what makes you think this is?

My dream shiny has always been a shiny female Togekiss, I know the shiny difference isn’t that noticeable, but Togekiss is my all time fave Pokemon.

I was scared to MM for it because I know the likelihood of getting a female shiny is like trying to get female combee, so I used a cute charmer and managed to get a female in the friend safari.

She has serene grace and is x/x/31/x/31/31 but her nature is Brave, should I keep going? Or should I take the plunge the keep at Friend Safari or even bite the bullet and MM for her? I’m admittedly not a competitive battler so this shouldn’t mean that much to me, I just always feel heartbroken when speed is affected negatively by the nature. Should that matter?

Thats strange how accurate this is. I've sr'd a lot of 1/8192 shinies this year and i usually get them under 5,000. I've only had 3 hunts go over that number and when they did they became big hunts, close to 20,000 srs on each of them

I got a shiny Chandelure, and a shiny Bisharp.
I'm glad it was those two since they have really different and cool shinys, as opposed to most of the other members on this team which are just slightly darker, or different hues of their main color.

But for dex nav..another pokemon pops up shouldn't break the chain...even if you can't find a pokemon it shouldn't break either.

Encounter it and faint and continue your chain like nothing happened.

One way to know if you're doing correctly is that the fith pokemon should 10 levels higher and the sixth pokemon should be 1 level higher.

So this might be a dumb question, but at what point do the levels reset? I'm hunting a shiny Ralts, and I can never tell when I've broken my chain. Just now after lvl 32 the little fuckers are back to lvl 3. And I've read that after 40 chains your probability of finding a sing goes up by .5%.
I've bassically gotten to the point where I've been doing this for so long, that i won't even care if the ralts is male, because I plant to raise that male ralts to be a gallade so I can sodomize him and make him into an hm slave.

Just zero in on it and start sinking a few hours a day in on it if you can. Its either a few days or a few more months. If you start hitting it with some big time sinks you'll get it probably in a week or less. Never had a hunt go past a week outside of rare exception.

Don't worry about resetting over it. In gen 2 the sparkles come before the shiny is seen. Just get into the habit of pausing for a half second when you see it before resetting so you'll have that window to see the sparkle and not SR

I probably hatch somewhere around 40-50 an hour. I've never actually checked exactly but it takes me a little over 5 minutes to hatch a full batch. I get all 5 eggs, use an O-power, hatch all 5, and repeat.

Well.. have the right mindset is a priority because you'll feel like giving up eventually, also get Pokebank if you don't have it already. Start from gen1-6 or just finish one generation at a time so you don't get mixed up. If you have previous games like X or older games; bw/dpp/hgss, transport the pokemon you need from them to Pokebank and breed them for the pre-evos to finish the dex. Once you get to legendaries, your going to have to jew some (if people still fall for that, I have no clue) or if you've got some legends, just lurk the gts until you find the legend your looking for.

It took like 2 weeks for me, but I'm happy that I've finished it both on X and OR.

Use the GTS a lot. Shuffle your legendaries around if you're not too attached to them. It doesn't actually take too long.

Bellossom is an uncompetitve shitmon either way, but if you run some calcs those few missing HP IVs do make a difference in how many EVs you have to invest for it to not get 2HKOed by certain heavy hitters.
It's Calm and the rest of its IVs are all 31 though, yeah.

She's also the great-granddaughter of my Emerald Bellossom and my FireRed Vileplume. Originally I hoped to hatch a shiny Oddish before ORAS so I could play through Hoenn with it, unfortunately I didn't make it in time.

That's the thing. It's the fastest way to breed so far. The sand pits just make it feel slow. Just don't look at them. Seriously, taking into account flying and other shit you had to do in x/y, this blows it out of the water.

It took me three tries to get a Mold Breaker Excadrill, as I got both Sand Rush and Sand Force shinies first. Because of that, I've been really paranoid about MMing Pokemon with two regular abilities and a HA that I want, although I happened to get lucky with an Unaware Wooper.
