II was good, but it was really bland, even after you get access to Kanto. The remake, the pokeathalon specifically, was fun as fuck.
Gen 1 I can't comment on.
I've only played ORAS, not the original, but it was still fun as hell, and I was hyped as shit at every important moment. Everyone is gonna whine and sob over their precious battle frontier but the post game does feel lackluster.
Gen 4 was great but it was let down by being slow as fuck, but it still had some of the best features (e.g. Underground, post game island, snow route, variable music, etc).
Gen 5 was good, B/W2 probably had the biggest post game.
Gen 6 was alright, plot points were still hyped as fuck, but the lack of post game let it down.
I'd say Gen 4 is the best.
