Yes I know Wales is part of the UK, but it would be a kinda small region on its own. I live in Wales but made the region based on the UK for the above reason, listing both in the order I stated Country/main associated group.

I was thinking chippy-related minigames like the Pokeathlon with events such as:

CHIP AWAY - Tap the screen rapidly to eat chips faster than anyone else

FRYING TOSS - Cook chips

SMELLING SALT AND VINEGAR - Pour either salt, vinegar or both onto chips acoordingly as fast as you can, losing points for an incorrect combination

I made ireland smaller as it's main purpose would be Elite 4 Champion/Battle Frontier, it would be a bit large otherwise. Also the islands are a sort of "Giant's Causeway" (I know it's too far north, shut up) with a Champion on each, leading to Ireland to fight the Champion who is piss-drunk throughout the whole story and sobers up once you beat him

I didn't really think about Gym typing but if I did make this as a game I would try to make the distribution of Pokemon make sense for the climate/history such as:

Lots of Ice/Water types in Scotland

Grass types in outer England with some Steel types near the middle

Dragon/Fire/Rock types in Wales

It was kinda tough since the larger cities are mostly in the upper half of the country, but this might actually work game-wise. The bottom half has longer/harder routes in more mountainous terrain which would fit the endgame to give a bit more challenge I guess.

I kinda like OP's idea of having London be just a huge city with no gym. Would be a good host location for the big plot event & various postgame content (Battle Frontier-esque buildings from its landmarks - O2, St Paul's, Tower, Tate, Shard, etc)
