neither, they're both too frail and die to common priority (talonflame and bisharp)
sylveon is a better pixilate abuser than gardevoir, but i guess if you wanted to run sceptile it might work with quick guard
aside from that you get like one attack off and die

I'm thinking about getting back into VGC, I want to try and use Suicune sine it's always been my favourite mon and now I can get a not-shit-tastic one. Only thing is I'm not so sure of how it works in doubles. Was thinking about pairing it with a Sigilyph for screens + tailwind maybe. Is that retarded?

Both abilities are good, actually. Iron Fist boosts Mach Punch and the elemental punches it has access to, Blaze makes Overheat and Flare Blitz hit really hard.

no, but flare blitz is pretty bad as most infernape run sash (thanks to speed creep and talonflame it sort of needs to)
aside from that punches can be ok, but tbh they're just waisting a movepool that could be better used for support

Are there any other viable dualscreeners? I had a Latias a few years ago and Cresselia looks good, if not a generic pick. Any Prankster screeners aside from Meowstic?

It's a support mon that uses strong dual STAB in close combat and overheat to hit both defenses. Fake out and another support move fill out your move slots. It doesn't have space to waste on worthless thunderpunch coverage, and mach punch isn't worth it either since it's already fast.

Flare Blitz is just retarded for multiple reasons. Go back to singles.

pretty much all infernape are naive with CC/overheat. you're gonna be hitting harder with overheat most of the time due to all the intimidate in the meta, it has no sash breaking recoil (I personally don't run sash but most people do) and is far better against certain threats like mawile.

liepard can be good but it was heavily exposed in 2013 by people like Aaron Zheng and Baz Anderson, all good players will know its tricks. you can probably encore people into useless moves a lot lower on the ladder, but against better players the threat of encore is gonna be your weapon. utilize the turn they switch out to do something other than encore. there's something to be said for forcing win conditions with priority encore though, your opponent can't always safely switch out especially late game or if you're throwing out spread moves

Amoongus for Lucario since it takes EQ well and can rage powder/spore away threats for Lucario to set up

I've seen a bit of M-Sceptile+Zapdos or Thundurus, but it's not that much better than Volt Absorb discharge or ChargeQuake

feint isn't as useful as you might think. if you're running a tailwind team you can use it to punish protects on the last turn of tailwind. outside of that, you just don't end up using it that much. ice shard will offer you more utility against scarf lando which is extremely common

Mega luke is somewhat viable, though still pretty frail. maybe try scarf mamoswine to pick off those scarf lando threatening your luke. remember in base form luke has inner focus which prevents you from being flinched by fake out, you don't always have to mega evolve turn 1. although I think you'll find after testing you'll want a mega bulkier than sceptile or luke

very viable. cress/jellicent/even dusclops are good TR setters. jelly/clops have the benefit of being immune to fake out. they're often paired with fake out users such as scrafty or hariyama to guarantee TR goes up turn 1. mental herb is common on jellicent and cress to shrug off taunts, or even lum berry to help amoonguss match up. redirection is also a viable way to ensure TR goes up (follow me, rage powder)

It was this calc that made me want to have Icy Wind on Greninja. Basically it was either Scald/Ice Beam or Ice Beam/Icy Wind because Suicune can live through anything m-mence can throw at it and have a decent enough chance to OHKO. And at least with Scald and Ice Beam I could neutrally hit steels and hit other water types harder, while not having to worry about triggering defiant or competitive. On top of that, it can live through most things Talonflame throws at it and OHKO it. So I will take into account Ice Beam over Icy Wind, but I wanted faster and harder hitting speed control along with being able to setup tailwind in the same turn. So I can setup a -1 to speed and boost mine simultaneously. It also splits up my speed control so if Suicune isn't optimal to bring I can still bring Greninja and have some form of it outside of Quash.

Thoughts on Virizion? I feel like it's still a great answer to rain (which usually runs Swampert over Megamence) and I like its design, but Talonflame is a thing and according to Battle Spot quite common on Rain. I'm curious - how does Ambipom fare in VGC? I've been thinking about giving Doubles a try, and I've never built a competitive team for it yet, only singles. I've got the bare bones of a Trick Room team handy, but the Maison gave me an idea I want to try.

Ambipom lead alongside Mega Gallade. Ambipom with Fake Out, and Flinging King's Rock. Two turns of flinching, plus protect, so he shouldn't be getting hit too much early on. That clears the way for Gallade to hammer stuff. Not sure what to run on Gallade here, though, but I suppose that would depend on what other teammates I come up with.

Weavile completely outclasses Ambipon on that role so if you are able to shed the MUH BRO mentality then use him instead.

He also brings fast ice and dark STAB which I should not even have to tell you why are good while Ambipon only brings mediocre normal STAB.

Fake Out is used first and foremost, not for damage, but for disruption. A little bit more of chip damage are not worth over everything else Weavile brings to the table.

Yeah I know that "my uncle works at nintendo" bullcrap and I am talking about a vgc community that is around 15 people in the Netherlands. Therefore having good connections with people from the pokemon company is not that hard. But vgc hack check gets updated frequently, Its just a screen telling about your battle box: there are some irragulations on some pokemon. So the Tournament Organizer can decide then by himself is he finds this hack worthy or not. If you have no modified pokemon, it says the team is ok.

There's someone on smogon's batte spot forum who accepts pokemon donations who then clones the fuck out of them and gives them out to anyone who shows an interest in playing on batte spot. Since battle spot and VGC have a huge overlap now, it should be pretty easy for anyone to pick one up.

Keep an eye on the battle spot SQSA thread since that's when she'll announce whenever her giveaway thread is back up for ORAS. I've donated lots of stuff to her in the past and I'll definitely be sending her this terrakion.

since mega salamence is so common I was playing with the calculator to see who can outspeed it and OHKO it. And who can do it the most unexpectedly.

Anything 65 base speed and above is guaranteed to outspeed it with max speed investment and wearing a scarf. Anything 85 base special attack and above with max investment and ice beam is guaranteed to OHKO if there's no HP or special defense investment.

silly results were scarf smoochum will KO it, pelipper, golduck, seadra, exploud, sharpedo, lunatone, floatzel, simipour, sigilyph, swanna, and goodra.

Unfortunately things get much harder if it fully invests in HP and special attack.

You need to deal lots of damage and "outspeed" threats. Slow mons also tend to be bulkier, so there's that. Relevant threats include Mega Mawile, Mega Camerupt, Gothitelle, Amoonguss, Escavalier and many others.

Dusknoir is kinda useless since it doesn't offer enoug hand doesn't hit hard enough. VGC is a fast format, even when you're running slow threats. Gardevoir is really good now, in my opinion, since it can balk lots of things. Make sure to carry a Bisharp counter and something to deal with Greninja too.

Use a fast TR setter like Chandie or Gardevoir or even Gengar.. Gothitelle is fine though, I just feel like you would have to stack more intimidates, which is kinda dangerous in the current meta.
Give Sash to Greninja, it doesn't really need the additional power. Mat Block kinda sucks too, give it Protect.

Gothitelle survives Hydreigon: 252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gothitelle: 150-176 (84.7 - 99.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery, so do that.

Have you tried out Sitrus on Haryiama with Quick Guard/Wide Guard? You could also drop Knock Off to use Feint, it could be really nice during TR, since double protects make you waste a precious turn.
Also, Specs Sylveon can potentially be devastating under TR, have you tried it? What about Mega Kanga? it could work after Hammer Arm.
I don't think Mence needs a neutral nature to KO Talonflame, so run Modest for the additional power. Wouldn't Rock Slide be better so you can abuse the flinch chance? You don't want to give enemy mons less speed if you might use TR at some point.

A fast TR setter means that this particular TR setter is faster than what it should be. Gardevoir and Chandie have base 80, Gengar has base 110, all of them can set up TR and do their roles outside it. TR always has -7 priority. Duh.

I also didn't think Gothitelle could survive a Choice Specs Dark pulse under any circumstance. I guess I'll have to retrain the Gothitelle.

The reason Hariyama has Assault Vest is because it becomes pretty bulky and still hits extremely hard. Sitrus Berry is a nice thought, but if it doesn't have Knock off, I'm pretty much Hard-Walled by Ghosts, namely Aegislash. I think I might keep Hairyama the way it is just because of how much it has already done to keep my team together.

Sylveon is a good pokemon, but the only reason I don't use it is because I can't breed for HP ground (To OHKO Heatran), but I guess with M-Camerupt, I have Heatran Covered. What would you replace for Sylveon?

I run Naive on Salamence so I don't get an ATK drop and nail OHKO with Rock Tomb. Modest doesn't provide me with any notable KOs from what I see, but I'll replace Rock Tomb with Rock Slide.

Noob here with my first team
Just looking for some advice on glaring flaws with my team. I'm sorry if I'm using stuff that's banned in VGC and I can give sets if asked but just assume I'm using smogon ones

The point is Trick Room users need to be bulky otherwise that part of the team is not going to work very consistently

Awesome thanks guys. I'll do the tweaks then. I'm mainly just using it as a team to get used to the meta for VGC/Showdown (gonna decide which I like first before putting in a ton of thought into a team).

the main issue there is move animation time. everyone says since you can't match the move animation time exactly the timer would be useless. but I think that's fucking retarded. I never take more than 45 seconds to make a move because any longer would make your moves randomly select in a tournament setting

it's KO'd by any powerful physical attack which is shit in this metagame. Any decent player would pick it out from team preview and be able to exploit it easily. Gothitelle and Cresselia outclass it in bulk and are way better options
