Having been forced to play one of the cards up his sleeve early, Black Mage had called in his old Spiritomb for backup. The ghost had been trapped in a dimensional pocket, but his new alliance with Giratina had given him the chance to distort an exit.

After being convinced to let Dead Cell go free, he led the way further into the canyon in search of the clown. BM and Mike now had new backup and a fresh resupply, meaning they were as ready as they were going to get for the challenges to come.

The addition of Wonderfag to their party helped, but if he could hear the mage's inner monologue he would have noted that among the things he had been forced to do, anything that wasn't 'stand down' wasn't among them. The group was too busy for casually breaking the 4th wall however, so he kept to his own narration, wondering what sort of opponents they would face before reaching Kefka, as this had been as far as he remembered the first time he had seen Dead Cell before.

From just outside the tent that constituted his encampment, Hans surveyed the landscape, awaiting the arrival of his contact, and their friends. Binoculars in hand, he gazed out at the endless expanse of snow and rock.

Three figures made an appearance on the outskirts of the snow. Letting the binoculars rest at his chest, he reached down to the holster on his left thigh, removing a flare pistol. Eying his targets one last time, he fired the burning crimson marker into the sky.

"God with me" he said, wondering now what he had gotten himself into, to say nothing of whether the plan lain out in his scenario would even work.

"It looks like someone's calling us out," the Black Mage trudged onwards into the snowy landscape ahead. He returned most of his Pokemon to spare them the trek through the winter wonderland, keeping out Wonderfag and his Volcarona - the latter mainly just for the additional warmth.

"Bet Holt would like it here," the Spiritomb observed while hopping from footprint to footprint behind BM.
"Holt. There's a name I haven't heard in a while. Who was he again?" BM asked.
"He was with Pryce back in that whole Mask of Ice thing or whatever."

The team that was out was becoming increasingly agitated as they would their way through the canyon ahead. Stuck in here, an attack could come in and they wouldn't even notice until it was too late to do anything, unless they wanted to keep their eyes on the sky at all times. Not such a bad idea, really.

Two of the team were still out of commission; that fact occupied much of the trainer's thought processes. How had he screwed up that badly, to lose both of them like that? And would there be a chance for redemption, or was it all downhill from here?

The signal flare jerked him out of his rumination. "The hell was that?" Damnit, it was an ambush already! The Pokemon team bristled at the noise, preparing themselves for anything that came along.

Bakura had recalled all of his pokemon save for his Articuno, who seemed to be enjoying the climate, in contrast to its trainer.

He looked up at the flare that had been set off, and chuckled to himself.

Something about that seemed to amuse him. Remembering old events, maybe.

He didn't seem too concerned, but he didn't have any idea of who they were going up against next, or how they went about things. He couldn't guess the exact intent of the flare, but figured it was silly to fire one expecting the enemy to not see it.

Up until now, we've been operating under the assumption that, when two or more people are speaking to one another, they are both speaking the same language. Thus, whatever language that may actually be, it is easier to keep the conversation in English, for simplicity's sake.

This is no longer the case.

Returning his flare pistol to its holster, Hans approached the company of men.

Black Mage, Mike, and Bakura, once they approached close enough, would find their newest obstacle dressed in black knee-high leather boots over thick woolen grey pants.A black leather jacket, zipped all the way up to its fur-lined collar, concealed six red-and-white spheres at his waist. Keeping the snow from his head and the sun from his eyes was a faded grey peaked cap, a remnant of his life before the fall of Silph. Brass binoculars hung loosely at his chest by tan lanyards, bobbing slightly with each step.

His hands, covered by black leather gloves, were raised in a gesture of goodwill, and the only indicator that he was a threat were the two holsters at his thighs.

"Nicht angreifen! Ich bin nicht der Feind!" he called out, hoping that luck and God would see him through to tomorrow.

The team stopped short. Another clown stood in the way. Fantastic. Couldn't even identify the language he was speaking right away... wait, German? Maybe? Mike would be stumped at this point; all he knew was English and Japanese. Not that he was thinking all that clearly anyway, but he figured he could at least put a response together.

"What is that, German? Sorry, don't know it. If you know English, that'd make it a lot easier for all of us." It wasn't often Mike spoke actual English any more, given that he lived in Japan, but there was still some use for it, like now.

"Ja, I speak Englisch" he replied; his English was clear, though it carried a hint of his native German. "Can I assume that ze rest of your company speak Englisch as well?"

Gesturing to his tent, he added "Won't you come inside? It's warm in my tent, and I've just put on a pot of kaffee."

They hadn't attacked him just yet. Maybe luck would see him through this day after all.

He couldn't help but think there was a bit more suggested with his orders, but he didn't speak German. A subtle attempt at sensing his intentions with the message was made, but if he was keeping up any sort of an act he wouldn't be able to simply pick it up.

He sat down and took a sip of the coffee, the heat allowing him to focus properly again. Of course it wasn't poisoned, he'd be able to taste if it were.
