I thought during most of my time playing Gold as a kid that, since Scizor was Scyther's evolution, then Heracross was Pinsir's.

Same, the shock when I found out you could use them multiple times! I always save my TMs so I never used any of them until later in the game.

I thought that Dragon was its own Pokemon and that Dragonair wasn't related at all.

Because Luvdisc and Alomomola are the same type, and have similar body shapes and colour palettes.
The only similarity Arbok and Seviper have is that they're snakes.

The anime fucked me up a lot when I first played through Red version when I was young. I deleted my Charizard's Flamethrower because the anime made Fire Spin seem like the most godly move ever.

Granted, it kind of was in 1st gen but my Pokemon were so under leveled that I wasn't fast enough to take advantage of it.
