Lost half of my team fighting Lance in HG, lost another against a freaking porygon that had download and a relevant SE attack, lost the final two on the snorelax, cause it got a full rollout through being paralyzed, caught it on the very next ball (was my first encounter on that route, and i had some filler in my party).

Damn thing is my only mon of a usable level and I got 7 gyms and Red still to go, got some grinding to do.

I'm in the tail end of my Leafgreen Nuzlocke right now, currently plowing through Victory Road. Between the ridiculous encounter rate (and my lack of Repels) and trainers whose diverse team line-ups make Set battle style very difficult, I had forgotten how unforgiving Kanto is.

My rival took my ace in the hole against his Alakazam out before Victory Road, too. It was during the Route 22 battle with a surprise, I was not expecting Hydro Pump off of his Gyarados. So now, I know that the Pokemon League and Champion battle will be harder than ever.

I can't afford to lose anyone else. My reserves are manageable, but there's nothing left in there that can even check Alakazam effectively.

There we go, I made it out of Victory Road.

I still have to get Threebie all caught up, but his Steel-type is all I have to get around Alakazam's ass-powerful Psychics. If he goes down, I don't know what else I can pull to match up. Fluffy has Shadow Ball and is holding a Spell Tag as a back-up, but I don't want to risk switching him in. As you can see, I took the losses of Hustles and DJ Roomba very, very hard.

Who would you guys recommend I teach Double-Edge to?

Custom rules: no items during battle and my pokes level can't exceed the gym leaders.
Got cocky and lost my ponyta Tarnation to a pachirisu who used bide.
Moments later lost mt geodude Braj to a damn buziel because I couldn't switch fast enough.

So now having to level my onyx Bianca and hope for the breasts.
At the Valley Windworks btw.

I don't count dupes, but i ended up catching a Magikarp on route 31, forgetting i caught something there already. Luckily the Krabby was the first encounter so i dont have to worry about it anymore, I can just release the Magikarp.

Shame Krabby doesn't really get any good STAB moves until ever, level 56 for Crabhammer as a Kingler, at least Strength will be hitting hard i guess

I did it. God dammit, I did it.

The Elite Four were hard as hell, especially since I lost DJ Roomba right before. I was really banking on him against Bruno and my Rival. But Threebie quickly proved to be an amazing replacement, and wound up basically carrying the entire team through the ordeal. Regadless, it was amazing that no one was lost until the Champion battle. Sacrifices had to be made, but still, I weep for Grodd, whose death I believe was entirely avoidable. I used my turn to heal Stooge, but I should have just went for the Low Kick. Stooge's health would prove necessary, though, because without Stooge, defeating my Rival's Alakazam would have been almost impossible. His sacrifice was just and noble.

The biggest things I learned in this Nuzlocke was to never get too cocky, about anything, and that nothing is ever guaranteed for you, but it may always be stacked against you. Also that Dodrio is the fucking tits; Stooge carried me through a ton of the late-game and now I love, love, love it.

Red and Blue is harder, I'd say, but for bad reasons. Movepools are much more limited, the mechanics are ridiculously wonky (of course), Psychic types reign uncontestedly supreme, etc.

FRLG retains the difficulty of the first game, but with easier mechanics thanks to the coat of Gen III paint.

This seems like the right place to ask this question.

I downloaded a Soul Solver rom for nds4droid on my Galaxy S5 and the game froze at Sprout Tower (I've heard this is a common problem due to some anti-piracy thing). Do I just need to download the patch, or is there something else I should do?

The next gym is Brawly right? You've got a double Fighting resist (I think) but I they can still hit hard with Normal moves, and I can't remember if they have a Rock move or not.

Gonna give you an advance tip right now, if you manage to catch either a Spoink or Spheal/Sealo, you treasure that fucker. Grumpig and Walrein were my dynamic duo in my last Hoenn Nuzlocke. Their bulk was unbeatable and they hit pretty hard. Really underrated pokemon.

Finished an Alpha Sapphire run yesterday.

MGyarados ripped all the Elite Four, one-shoting everything. Until MGross. It killed all my mons.

There was only one mon left, Vigoroth, my HM slave. MGross used Giga Impact in the previous turn, to kill Mightyena.

They're usually considered "caught" in the city you revive them in. So if you're doing a Kanto game, if you revive a fossil on Cinnabar, you can't catch anything by fishing as well, then.

Some people look down upon "gift" pokemon though, like fossils and Eevee in RBY/FRLG

You are only allowed to catch the first pokemon you see on the route. If you run away, make it faint, or have no Pokeballs to catch it with, you're screwed.

Some casuals play with a Duplicate Clause, where you catch the first pokemon you see on a route that you don't already own. That way you don't have entire boxes full of Zigzagoon.

I agree with the other anon about it being the whole point, but not his reasons as to why.

The point is using a team that you otherwise might not be likely to use.

If you can use anything you wan't you'll end up just using your old favorites and/or what's best for that game.

That said, there is nothing WRONG with picking your own team and just using the "Dead at 0 HP rule", if it is fun for you, go for it, it is just not a nuzlocke.

The music is really nice too. Even though it's the Gen 2 version of the music I sometimes forget just how good the music in Kanto is. Viridian Forest is especially good.

That doesn't make it a nuzlocke, and if you phrase your challenge in the context of "a nuzlocke, but..." and maybe that wasn't your intention but that first post does read that way to me and the other anon at least, it is fair to say that the differences miss the point of the Nuzlocke challenge even if it would be a valid challenge in its own right. Much like a game of association football except everyone can use their hands, might be a fun game in its own right (no idea), but missing the point of the original game.

I don't care if you post about your challenge here, someone else might though, and I would understand why.

Quilava 1shot Clefairy with a crit, when I paralyzed the Miltank, forgetting it had a lum berry. Stomp crit, forcing me to switch out to Bellsprout to heal it, sacrificing Bellsprout. Boosted Nidorina's attack with some X items and finished the job.

Flannery was easier than expected, though her Torkoal almost killed Dicks with Overheat. I still came out victorious.

Just startes up an AS locke. Doing something Wonderlocke-ish, in that I'm going to put my Power Save to use. Every city, as well as thw two towns with gyms (Dewford and Lavaridge), I'm going to RNG a number between 1 and 719. Then I'll gen up that Pokemon (or the most basic form of it's line). Gives me 11 Pokemon plus my starter, a Misdreavus also chosen by RNG.

little bit complicated but I think it'll prove interesting.

Does B have Intimidate? If so, when you get to Norman, switch him in on Truant turns. A little risky, but it might help survivability, critical hits nonwithstanding. Or you could do it on turns when you know they're going to heal, but that's a bit of risky prediction.

Goddamn, this was truly a bloodbath. I should have grinded more.
Dicks didn't even stand a chance, she died in one hit without getting a single scratch.
I had to sacrifice B so I could heal Lovely.
Her sacrifice was not in vain.
I switched to Mister so I could use confusion ray but he didn't even get a chance to act.
This just proves that I need to be careful, I almost lost Nickie in this fight. I can't lose my star player.

You're got a sixth slot, no need to not try having both.

Camerupt will give you Fire coverage, but also has two really common 4x weaknesses. Sandslash is more reliable, in that sense, so I think you should go with him for now.

Dude, it's Volt White 2. When I play regular games I limit my levels to the highest of the gym, but this is a difficulty hack. I tried playing this hack with the level limit rule dozens of times and I never get further than Burgh. Two or three levels isn't the end of the world.

As much as I love getting Pokemon with nicknames in a Wonderlocke, it rarely ever happens.
On a Pokemon X Wonderlocke I did, only 1 Pokemon had a nickname, it's a little disappointing.

Damn, I've attempted to do a Nuzlocke of Black several times now but I'm sick of all the starters and I don't really like any of the Pokemon near the beginning of the game.
Despite that though, it has the most Pokemon I've wanted to use in it but they don't show up until after the 2nd gym.
Do I just give up? I don't like using randomizers so that's not an option. Maybe I'll do Blaze Black? but that means it'l be harder to get the Unova Pokemon I do wan't to use later in the game.
Why must early game mons suck so much.
