Although it may seem unfortunate, I don't think it's Nintendo's decision to try to 'force' people to buy the new games. They just couldn't support it, and it's probably no longer being beneficial in some way.
It's the same with the Nintendo Wii.

go to showdown. There is literally no reason to battle on cartridge over this. No waiting forever for a match, you don't have to take at least half an hour to re-breed a pokemon with a different nature and train it again, hidden powers, etc. And it isn't hacked by those slanty eyed fucks, I thought they were all about honor
