Reminder to everyone on this board that in the Original Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald if you had a photographic memory of Dewford Cave you could skip the second gym leader, grind some more, probably beat the 3rd Gym leader before having to go back to beat him to use the HM he teaches you

in ORAS...you dont get that...why? how on earth is this easier?

This is how Gamefreak teaches you how to deal with Dewford

But why would you need Flash. Its not like in Gen 1 or 2 where everything is completely black. That smash patch of light is plenty of what you need to get through dewford cave first, give Stephan his package, then the guy on the boat takes you to slateport

Like how there are several sequence breaking moments you can accomplish in Gen 1 and Gen 2

There's no real sequence breaking in Gen 1 outside of the Silph Scope skip, since the entire map is linear up until Celadon and then everything becomes accessible at once.

Brawly was the fourth gym leader I faced. I remember defeating Flannery and wondering why the fuck I couldn't face Norman, only to realize I didn't have the second badge.

Nope, the mission was to give the letter to Steven and then give Stern the Devon Goods. Reading carefully meant that you might realize that you don't actually have to do the leader until later (Norman tells you that you need five badges to fight him)

Personally, I did that at least once. Fuck that Makuhita.

I used to always skip dewford and fortree. Skipping dewford was always just due to being lazy as fuck and having the layout memorized.

Skipping fortree however was a nuisance as I then had to teleport myself around, having to stock up on leppa berries and super potions as I had to not go to any pokemon centres so that I could easily teleport back to fortree when ever I needed.

Believe it or not, Winona's badge is the only one the game checks for when you reach the Elite Four.

The game assumes you have all the other badges as you can't complete the game without them (remembering that Norman won't battle you until you have all badges prior to his) or the HMs they permit, whereas you don't need fly to complete the game.

I actually beat the gen 1 cave without flash alot of times.

I like how all the "flash" areas in ORAS don't even need flash, its literally just a few shades darker but you can still see almost everything except maybe a ledge if you don't pay attention

fossilmons make Blaine a lot easier if you are trying that. You get them level 30 in gen 1. Water/Rock resists all their moves.

Requiring Surf isn't so bad since it's the best STAB move for a lot of special-focused water types until they learn hydro pump in the 40s or 50s, and even then the accuracy difference gives you something to think about.

That really fucked me up in AS because I played RSE a shit load when it came out and multiple times after so I just knew the exact layout of all of the caves and never used flash. Then AS came and fucked me up. Same with pokemon movesets through leveling up
