"Keep this safe" said Hans, handing her the sphere containing Mew. "No matter what happens next, keep this safe."

"What do you mean, vater?"

"The plan has changed. I'm... I'm going on alone. You and Erco will return to Germany without me."

"But why?"

"I cannot explain. I just need you to trust me."

Taking out his phone, Hans dialed a number- The one number he thought would be helpful in a time like this.

When his wife took the call Holt moved a respectable distance away so that she could speak privately. In theory, but Holt had rather sharp hearing, and didn't have much problem catching a lot of what was being said. Suffice to say it was pretty worrisome stuff, even from only hearing half of it.

Just in time to, as an annoying person came barging into his (supposedly) locked SDKFZ. "Don't call me that" he said, putting his phone in his pocket. "It's disrespectful."

Banging on the roof of the vehicle, Hans gave his last command to Erco. "Start the old girl up, and drive down the mountain as fast as you can. Don't stop for anything. When you get to the mainland, there will be a ship waiting to take you to China, where the SDKFZ will be loaded onto a railcar and brought back to Germany, along with you and Emiko."

Before departing, Hans bent down on one knee, hugging Emiko. "I love you" he said. "No matter what happens, I'll always love you. Be strong for me."

Giving his daughter one last smile, Hans closed the door to the half-track, hiding the tears in his eyes as she rolled away.

He was in the shit real deep now, whether he liked it or not.

Fortunately, The Kubelwagon is indeed quite easy to drive, once you remember that it was made in an era when stick was the norm. Anyone in the party raised on automatic would have to swap with someone who wasn't a pussy.

The air filled with the crack of aged engines starting, and soon enough, the snow beneath their spinning tires was covered black from the exhaust.

Despite the age of the vehicle, the going for the duo in the half-track was smooth and efficient. The Germans had a reputation for being excellent at producing arms and equipment for very good reason, and it helped that Hans babied his antiques to keep them good as new despite the fact that they had been rolled out of a factory over half a century ago.

There was little talk going on once they left the colonel's campsite, with only the grumbling of the engine keeping there from being complete silence in the, mercifully, heated cabin. Not that the cold would have bothered Erco much, the cool mountain air always did him good.

An eye was kept peeled on their route the entire way, so it was fitting that the attack came from a direction he could not feasible watch - below. The ice pillar launched the rear end of the truck into the air a few feet, and this sent the rest of it careening to the side.As it turns out Erco was a very adept driver and turned against their momentum when the tracked portion slammed back into the earth.

"Seems we have company." The driver said with a hint of annoyance to his voice.

Without looking to the girl at his side, he nodded towards the glove compartment. "Get my driving gun, we may need it."

If she looked there would be a mauser broomhandle tucked away in the back, behind maps and some other useful trinkets. One of the automatic variants.

As for Vilbert, that maneuver caused them to lose quite a bit of speed if he wanted to capitalize on it. Because otherwise, he attempted to keep driving and speed up again.

The wind buffeting their car didn't slow down the sturdy vehicle, though it did bring the driver to tuck his sidearm under his arm for swift access so that he could maintain better control. For the moment he had no reason to guess some crazy bastard of a mage was under their car, so he assumed that someone was doing something to do them from an unseen vantage point.

Since half-tracks were very good off road, that's what he did - went off road. But he did first have the courtesy to tell Emika to "hold on" before taking a sharp turn to the left.

The vehicle lurched and bumped as he took it off of what poor excuse for a road the goat path leading up here was. So with that said the ground off of it was even worse. Bumpier and rockier, with plenty of stuff to jar and scrape their stowaway off if he wasn't lucky, and just rattle his cage if he was.

Well, whoever they were, this plan wasn't working so a new one was needed. The tracks on this truck kept him from boot-leg turns, which was his first idea.

Second idea included the engine revving as Erco floored it and made best possible speed towards a particularly large outcropping of rock that the truck crested and launched off from.

"Have a taste of your own medicine." Deitiker muttered, as the vehicles slammed back down on the ground no worse for wear. That poor guy underneath it might not fair so well, all told, as the military machine built to handle Russia of all places.
