That's why they need to change something about abilities. Like, make it so that some of the pokemon that can mega evolve retain their old abilities.
Basically, as an example, Altaria gets Pixilate, but the grandfather clause allows it to keep it's ground type immunity, you know? It may be broken on some pokemon (like Edgezard X) but boost others that need it (like Altaria).
