This might come in a surprise but blizzards are one of the worst things for a dragon an its crew.
We were once trapped by a damn one while we were regressing to Europe after a long mission in China, flying over the mountains of Tian Shan. It's horrible, you can't see shit so you have to keep your dragon flying high if you want to avoid crashing in a mountain. At situation like that you only have two options:
If you try to land you take the risk of crashing on the hillside, harming your dragon and killing many of your crew. Even if you land safely, you're still exposed to the cold of the storm and the dragon is now inactive and the cold will get him, so if you don't find shelter quickly you better say good bye to your big friend.
The other option is keep flying and hope the storm to recede, but if the blizzard keeps on sooner or later your dragon will get tired from fighting against the strong winds and hoarfrost will commence to form in its wings. Then, you will try to land because you have no option but the conditions now are even worse.
Fortunately, back when we were in Tian Shan we were able to spot a cave on the side of a mountain and take shelter.
