Instead I discovered he's the best sidekick in the show (so far, haven't seen enough BW or XY) who was never annoying to watch, had a great VA, was a voice of reason at appropriate times but was still a "real" kid character in the end. The worst thing about Max is that it kinda felt like they glossed over his desire to train Pokemon himself with Ash just saying "there there, one day you'll be a GREAT trainer" every few eps. Lost opportunity to explore his character in what could have been one of the better overarching Hoenn B-plots.
tl;dr: max was cool and i guess a good chunk of /vp/ers have little brother issues to iron out
