Zangoose's markings are the exact same shade of red as Seviper's teeth and tail-blade, implying they are scars from fighting Seviper. But the purple markings on Seviper are not present in Zangoose, right?
Wrong, if you look at the R/S/E sprite of Zangoose, he actually has claws in the exact same shade of purple as Seviper. This detail was only dropped when DPP turned Zangoose's claws to the current grey.
This relation between the two rivals is kept in their shiny sprites.

The shelmet/karrablast trade (the only trade where the designs ACTUALLY depend on the other mon being traded) are because carrabis beetles rip snails out of their shells to eat them.
