Is it wrong that I don't find the VGC format fun at all? I tried to like it, really, I did, I just hate fighting the same teams over and over. I don't really mind having to carry protect on most pokes or having to choose from 4 mons, but the item clause and overcentralization make it really tiring.

It can be applied to a lot of things in the Pokemon meta. VGC at least allows for a lot of creativity in sets unlike Smogon's OU, to give a common example.

It's obviously expected to a certain degree, but in my experience it's much more extreme in VGC. The data will back me up on this, too. I have no problems with people using good pokes to win, I just wish there were more of them. Smogon OU is definitely a lot less centralized, fact. It has its own share of problems, of course. I just have to git gudder, I guess. I haven't written it off totally.

Of course VGC will be centralized, every metagame of anything is and will be. That you can exploit that centralization with something unexpected until it becomes the new centralizing thing and the cycle repeats it's what makes VGC what it is.

I've been thinking of an anti meta lead with scarf riolu. With max hp, mega Kangaskhan fake out will never ohko, and I can redirect every fake out to riolu with follow me, allowing mega salamence to ensure a dragon dance. Good idea or no?

Item Clause is one of the best things about VGC, have you ever actually ever taken a look at Smogon formats? It's practically all choice items and leftovers.

I'll give you a hypothetical here. Let's say I want both bisharp and aegislash on the same team. Both of these pokemon heavily benefit from life orb. But because item clause exists, one of them can't get it, and thus they'll perform sub optimally.

If wide guard protected it there be a handful viable pokes to use against it, Aegislash foremost.
Klefki is very middling; falls into the don't use if you can avoid it camp so having it almost solely to counter a seldom seen, though strong, move isn't in your best interest.

It's bollocks that wide guard doesn't protect against status. I don't see any consistency with the protect moves. Spiky shield blocks status, king's shield doesn't. If crafty shield did not exist wide guard might have picked up that niche.

I've had mild success with taunt against smeargle's dark void. That same smeargle used crafty shield against me which is why I remembered that move existed.

Yes, reason why I'm thinking Mega Gallade. If MILF were to Fake Out, it'd do it to Milotic. If it doesn't, it will go straight for the kill to Gallade. It would be a matter of finding a good spread that'd let MegaGallade survive to return either a Close Combat or Drain Punch.

If the opponent starts with an Intimidator to stop Gallade, it'd activate Milotic's Competitive also. Considering also the possible Rotom and Will-o-Wisp, Facade sounds more and more attractive too. Just brainstorming but maybe adding Bisharp as a third partner would make for a nice half-team.

I'm looking to replace Blaziken and Milotic on the team primarily, if there are any other suggestions let me know. I like Tornadus for balk and prankster Taunt and Tailwind, I know it's not as fast as Whimsicott, but it has better defensive typing with Milotic, Zard-Y, and Bisharp around. Yes I'm aware the Milotic's moveset is shit, I couldn't remember if mine had Mirror Coat as an egg move. Outside of that feel free to tear this to pieces and suggest better ideas.

I'd also get fighting stab over eq too but that's just me

Ludicolo is actually a nice check to rain and its general abusers. Go for it with an Assault Vest to make bulky or you could try a Life Orb variant for a little more fire power.

The thing is, Charizard-Y is already a nice check to rain if they bring in Politoed and you bring Charizard-Y. Mega-Evolve to get rid of the rain. If they switch out politoed, then switch out after them. Then either stall the rain out, or kill its members with the rest of your team until it's safe to bring back Charizard.

I personally would replace Life Orb with focus sash on Bisharp, but life orb isn't out the question. It's just that Bisharp is already pretty frail and is already pretty strong with a Defiant Boost.

You may not want to stack an intimidate with Landorus for fear of Milotic/opposing Bisharp. So I'd get rid of Arcanine for something a little more utility. I'd recommend Aegislash with Wide Guard. Your team is a little vulnerable to spread moves and a little Sylveon-weak so Wide-Guard will save you from time to time.

Thundurus is cool. Maybe a specially-bulky variant for speed control since Charizard-Y's speed tier isn't the best anymore with new threats having more than 110 base speed.

As far as special bulk goes, some people I know like to use Choice Specs Draco Meteor from Hydreigon as a bench mark for special bulk and play around from there. Use Sitrus Berry for calcs and give leftovers to Aegislash. It's already a nice check to Sylveon, but to completely wall it is a nice thing to have.

I have been working in a spread for Bulky Thundurus, this is by far the coolest I got:
Calm 252 HP / 60 Def / 196 SDef
It can survive Draco Meteor from Choice Specs Modest Hydreigon but personally I would try to survive Draco Meteor from Choice Specs Adaptability Dragalge... but it's not that common.
It can survive Double-Edge from Adamant Mega Kangaskhan, obviously factorizing the Sitrus Berry.
So, what do you think?

as the others have said, walls aren't really used much in doubles. would suggest changing empoleon and chesnaught, landorus to adamant with either scarf, sash or assault vest, rotom to calm with enough evs' to survive charizard y solarbeam, and probably take off sableye altogether. m-sableye isn't worth a megaslot

Chesnaught and Empoleon both covered Rotom's and Lando's weakness respectively. I primarily used them as a core with zard-y and sableye for wall breaking and support if needed. The team is too weak to ice and really lacks damage output. Empoleon and chesnaught could both take a ton of hits but rarely did they net ko's.

Replying to this again. Jolly MegaGallade with 76 EVs in Speed outspeeds 252 Spd Adamant MegaKanga after the turn Mega Evolution takes effect. If MegaMILF attacks first, it'd be like this:

So the current spread I'm going for is 132 HP / 48 Atk/ 252 Def / 76 Spd. It would let it survive the attack and counter either with Close Combat or Drain Punch, the later I could consider it considering we'd be using a semi bulky spread and after recoil it'd probably OHKO if MegaMILF has no EVs in HP or Def:

I'm thinking in going Close Combat/Drain Punch - Knock Off - Protect - Substitute. Opinions?

If MegaKhan's your concern, go for an Adamant nature with a spread of 156 HP / 36 Atk / 132 Def / 4 SpDef / 180 Spe.

You outspeed Adamant MegaKhan, but if you guess wrong and it's Jolly, you'll still survive its Double-Edge.

It's slightly gimmicky/niche, but has anyone else tried out aggron? I've been running a wide lens adamant version. With 60 evs into attack, sylveon is always OHKO'd by Iron Tail, and Rock Slide deals with Talonflames and Charizards.

Steadfast would really only be useful against Scarf Tyranitar's Rock Slide, because nothing else is going to be using a flinching move (such as Fake Out, for example) against a Gallade. They'll always predict a Mega Evolution because why else would you be using a Gallade?

Justified gives you a bit more utility, such as the ability to swap into Knock Off and Snarl with impunity.

your values are a little of it's like ~68.3% for 1sig and ~95.4% for 2sig.
Not that it's that important very often, generally you just plan for minimum roll when you're attacking and max when defending.

So far I got this, probably I'll settle with Ice Beam on Milotic. Gotta love that girl, it resists both full Atk Garchomp and Landorus-T, these only managing to barely 3HKO without Sitrus Berry. More worried about Kanga and Mence, though, but I think so far I have that covered.

I'm thinking in adding a bulky Zapdos with Tailwind or T-Wave and Roost, but still I can't decide if I should use Thundurus better for that Prankster T-Wave. Also I can't decide between Garchomp and Landorus-T. Yeah, Intimidate is nice but everyone is getting prepared to receive one, especially Pokemon like Bisharp which could be a huge problem.

I'm also thinking in adding Weavile to the team as a fast sweeper but I'm not sure if it'd fit in the team.

I think Lopunny is at an interesting place in VGC. I faced a Raichu/Lopunny combo a little while ago and...I almost got devastated thanks to Fake-Out/Encore combos. I've seen it paired with Azumarill from time to time. The thing is that most teams that run a Mega support the Mega; usually not the other way around (from my experience). Lopunny falls under the latter. I mean, it works, but you better have a damn good reason to have it support your team.

You can see the top 12 down at the bottom, definitely have a way to deal with all of those. If you want to handle specific pokemon, click "Choose a Pokemon", search it, and it'll give you the moves/Pokemon most used against it, and the partners it was used most with. Granted a lot of those tend to be the top 12 anyway, but it's still pretty useful.

My main worries are Charizard and Heatran from the special side. There's no way MegaMaw is surviving Zard-Y. Heatran even with 252 EVs in SpD it will barely survive a Heat Wave, leaving it to RNG:

Personally, I'm trying to avoid powersaves since I already caught a few legendaries, one of them being a 27 / 8 / 29 / 31 / 31 / 31 Heatran, it's tempting to do it, though, since I want to avoid the hassle of resetting my game to have another chance. Others clone their legendaries if they're perfect to trade them with other legendaries.

It's just a matter of patience to capture them, anon, perfect legendaries are very rare, especially those with specific Hidden Power.

Don't know about the IVs, but shiny should be simple, just check the pokémon ID and OT ID to see if they match as a shiny pokémon. Unless that actually changes your pokémon's ID, which should get you caught through other stuff.

I've been running a team with TR simple beam, encore, wish as someone from here suggested. Bounce between the 1600-1700s due to standard shit like Mega Kanga, Lando, stuff like that. Feels so good using Sumple Beam on Regirock/Registeel. Especially Registeel, since I have both Curse sand Amnesia which makes hard to take down unless it's burned or something.

mega audino did pretty decently on showdown. Always gets taunted but draining kiss keeps it alive at least. Good utility with simple beam, dangerous special sponge with calm mind. Also played around with tyrantrum, has surprising bulk, survived +2 mega gyara ice fang. I have him as a wall breaking choice band head smasher, I might switch for life orb and run protect, cus he pulls lots of aggro.

I use Mega-Lopunny, and I think it actually is worth a mega slot. I really just love how much it fucks over Mega-Khan, it's Scrappy Fake Outs, scrappy High Jump Kicks, how much pressure Encore puts on opponents, and it has suprisingly okay bulk at times. It really is unique and has a role that not many pokemon play. It does suck that you have to run either return or High Jump Kick since it needs protect, but it is a B mega in my book. Try it out sometime, I encourage you.

Simple Beam has such good utilitity under TR. Like getting rid of Parental Bond, Huge Power, etc. What other moves and EV set you running on your Registeel? I'm just using a ThunderPunch/Iron Head/Amnesia/Curse set with a 252/252 HP and SpDef Careful spread.

Suicune does cause problems to my team but I have Minimize Eviolite Chansey for that thing and other special walls.

Taunt from Crobat, Thundurus, Sableye, can be huge problems too. The only way I've found to dealt with them is Whimisicott.

It's always the standard as fuck teams that get me because It all comes down to who had the better lead in determining who wins the match.

And i guess you run a Bold set or Calm with your Mega Audino? I'll try using it next outside of Trick Room and compare the two.
Although I do love the Speed control with Trick a Room being Taunt weak is so bad.

I wish Healer got buffed to 50% with the chance of curing M-Audino as well. It would be so much better since status-nig is so common.

Also have a shell smashing cloyster on team, tried to make it as physically bulky as possible since it's getting +4 boosts it doesnt need any attack or speed investment, still usually dies too quickly to see use. Found out protect and sub stops simple beam too. Also, follow me, damn clefable stole it from me last match.

Anyone else feel like Showdown isn't a good place to practice VGC? Like it's okay for testing, but most players on there are trash, timer is completely wrong and will randomly decrease your time out of nowhere, and HP numbers aren't implemented.
Also, how fast can I go through ORAS? I'm getting the cart tomorrow and want to start right away.

Showdown is pretty much shit except for testing. If you actually want to practice, cartridge is your best choice.

As far as going fast through cartridge, just keep exp.share on the whole time, use the giveaway Beldum, and you should go pretty fast.

I've always found I just play a lot worse on Showdown for some reason. On Showdown, my ranking doesn't feel like it matters and I just throw games by playing the most obvious choices, while on cartridge I actually think it through and predict.
Plus it always bugged me how it doesn't have the same timer that WiFi and VGC have.
Although the WiFi timer is too long to really outstall the opponent anyway.

As for >>22351826, brought it to a NBC and thus far having M-Sceptile in every game wasn't a problem to get top cut as no one considers it a threat. In fact, it was a ill-timed swagger from Thundurus-t as I attacked the only thing that took me out.

However I do need something that's better off to deal with Sylveon, considering replacing Bisharp with Scizor as intimidate spam wasn't as much of a problem as I honestly thought it'd be.

Use Scizor or even Metagross instead of Bisharp if intimidate wasn't a problem. They both eat faeries for breakfast, and Scizor helps against rain too.
It's good to know nobody considered it a threat, star and gya are great if you have a way to deal with electric types.
