Pikachu as a mascot for Pokemon is used similar to Mario games for Nintendo. Neither Pikachu, nor Mario are bad mascots, but they're overshadowing everything else. Pikachu is fine, but Pokemon is so much more than just Pikachu, just like Nintendo has so many other good games apart from Mario, so having no other mascot around and even pushing its dominance further by introducing the cosplay Pikachu, instead of giving other mons a chance, is kind of sad.
