I want to get into competitive Pokemon. Where can I start? How do I build a team? What kinds of Pokemon does one need to make a proper team composition? I already know the gist of what I have to do to minmax Pokemon for competitive, all I need to know is how the meta works and what Pokemon I need. If anyone's an expert on the OR/AS meta, please teach me how to get into this. Posting links to guides and other useful resources will suffice.

My advice is to start out watching some battles on YouTube or Showdown to get an idea of what competitive battling is like. If on YouTube, then watch the videos with commentary. Then, observe the game for yourself as you think about how you'd make a team for it.

Learn about Pokemon and sets for them that are commonly seen and start thinking about strategies, how you would face a certain Pokemon, a certain team, a certain player, etc.

Then work on that team. Give it a go. Don't worry if you lose the first few battles. You need the experience. Then, tweak your team. A lot. Try to cover as many bases with capitalizing on your team's strengths and making up for their weaknesses. Give it another go. Maybe make another team.

To add onto this, whenever you first begin battling you want to make your team as well rounded as possible. Don't worry about Stall or HO yet, make sure you have a spinner, some sort of hazer/taunter, and something in the form of offensive/defensive presence. Also try not to have a common weakness among your mons, and make sure their isn't too much redundancy with your typing/roles.

If you're just starting try OU, it's the same shit on every team and easy as fuck to learn how it works

Then move down to UU and RU that's where the real fun is because more variety
