>>22351857X/y were a definate downgrade in some regards, from b2/w2, namely the difficulty, writing quality, and post game content.
But the stunning visuals, technical improvements, and other things, made x/y more than enough to kickstart a new gen.
But or/as however, didnt bring anything new like that to the table. It was a downgrade in every possible way, and no, new megas dont make ep for it.
Adding to your list, the lack of improvement to Hoenn's regional dex was painful, it remaining to be the worst regional dex in the franchise, followed somewhat closely by sinnoh. This was exceptionally hurtful as b2/w2 and x/y seemingly got their dex's fucking perfect. Or/as didnt even add gastrodon ffs, a pokemon originally designed for gen 3. Water routes are still stupidly long (fuck the last three in particular) and fullof tentacool and wingull. At least when the kids grow up, theyll lok back on or/as the way we do gen 3, and complain about the exact same things, because gf couldnt fucking fix the problems of a 12 year old game ina 2014 remake. They just added more shit to complain about by todays standards of pokemon.
Im not saying or/as are bad games, theyre not. But they have to be the most meh entry in the entire franchise, and if it wasnt for the fact that you cant even fucking battle with people using the new (and mostly shit) megas, I (and like 5/6 of my pokemon playing friends) would have skipped the games completely.
