I was like 6 when I first played Red, and 9 when I played Crystal. That "underleveled bullshit" was never a problem to me because that's just the way the game is. I knew by experience the level at which they evolved and just knew it wasnt a glitch or a bug that they could have something like a lv21 Magneton.

No its not, I had my ass handed to me several times trying to level up 5 pokemon without the exp share and having them at the same level at all times, not just using your fucking starter.

Anyone who isn't a dumbass trying to find a challenge in pokemon. Fuck having to grind. Even if it's for one second. I don't give a shit about the battle system. If at any time you can one shot the final boss you shouldn't be looking to that game for any kind of difficulty.

I dont like being over levelled. I like the challenge, I also like to work on single pokes and not be so far over leveled that the game is made easy mode. Its the reason I turn off exp all, I dont like it.

You still end up overleveled without it. Add in that they give pokemon terrible movesets and most trainers have unevolved garbage until the victory road and you have a huge problem

There are people on /vp/ right now who don't know the levels at which gen one pokemon evolve.

Isn't there a way we can just sort of sweep these ingrates away so I don't have to interact with them?

Here's how I think of it.

The levels pokemon evolve aren't hard numbers. They're representations of how strong YOU have to train them to be.

But for other trainers, its different. A lot of trainers don't have your talents. Thats why you'll run into people who's pokemon should have evolved, but haven't. All those fishermen and kids spring to mind, but theres plenty of others.

And then you the specialists. The gym leaders or champions or the like who are so in tune with their type that the pokemon they train evolve more easily than most other trainers, yourself included.

Thats why Lance has underlevelled Dragonites. He's a fucking dragon master, he's good at training dragons, better than you are. Their strength is specialisation while yours is the broad spectrum you can train.

Besides, the NPC trainers need all the help they can get.

Because fighting a lower-leveled Magneton is more challenging than a correctly-leveled Magnemite, and the devs decided lv30 (the correct one for evolution) is too high for that point of the game?

RSE was the worst offender of this, especially with Watson.

If you take a look at the fact that no one put in Mareep, there wasn't really anything that could evolve by the time you got to him. So it was halfway warranted.

They really could have placed him elsewhere to counteract this though.
