Why the actual fuck is this so expensive? $100 - $250? and yet the Japanese ones (sometimes in better condition) got for $10 - $40

to store my pokemon on, and to get the special eggs that come with it. ive contemplated buying one of the Japanese ones since its the same thing and all i would have to do is remember what button does what.

It was only sold via the Pokémon Center's website, and even then only for a short time. Not many people bought it, so it's rare and that's why it's expensive.
