In concept, no.

But in reality, I find it hard to believe that by objectively analyzing all 721 Pokemon based on equal criteria and not taking generation into account, you wouldn't find at least a few Gen II+ Pokemon that you like. Pretty much everyone that only likes the Gen I Pokemon are genwunners and only care about muh nostalgia.

I'm not going to post that "Probs with Gen I" picture since everyone knows what was broken or problematic about the first generation.

Gen II was a good update to Gen I since it was the only true sequel to a prior generation's core series game that didn't feel like it was a reboot (contrast with Gen III taking place far away from Kanto+Jhoto, what mostly turned me off was the new regional Pokédex only and no option to switch to National until you unlock it)

What earlier gens had against it was Pokémon having a smaller and less varied move pools with not many moves of other types that weren't that species' main STAB types.

Charizard for example, only learned Normal and Fire-type attacks through levels in Gen I and couldn't learn any Flying-type attacks outside of Fly until Generation II, where it learns Wing Attack naturally.

Also what kinda hindered Gens I and II was it's lack of Pokemon for the more uncommon types: Ghost, Ice, Dragon, Dark, and Steel, which Gens III, IV, and especially V helped contribute additional species to.

Going to have to say youre wrong there. Bulbasaur was the easiest, as it could carry you through the first three gyms easy. (Resists electric, se against water and rock) and did fairly well on most gyms besides blaine's and sabrina's. Squirtle comes in second because his evolutionary line can bulk everything but lt.surge and erica's gyms. Charizard was actually the worst starter to go with, but kids loved him because he was an ebin dragon.
