For the ability, is the pokémon top good?
For the item, does the item break after one use? (like focus sash etc)

If the answers are no I don't really care, specially since the official format has multiple item clause, I don't know why smogon doesn't though, I thought it was supposed to be an improved format, they must love those lefties and orbs.

It unnecessarily restricts teambuilding. It's effectively like installing rules which dictate that no two Pokémon can share a single type/ move/ability; it satisfies the respective autisms of those who are annoyed by such things, but that's about it.
Item Clause also screws over stall, because there are many more viable offensive items than defensive items, and several of the defensive ones are more or less specific to a few Pokémon.

Break after one use seems good, it would make glass cannons so much more deadly although, and baton passers would be much more useful

Smogon doesn't have an item clause because there's no benefit to it. There are enough variants of offensive items like life orb, choice band, expert belt, etc that all work well in different situations for different pokemon to the point where it doesn't matter and using two pokemon with leftovers doesn't make the game uncompetitive. There's also no competitive team where the optimal setups of the pokemon include nothing but life orbs and leftovers.

All it does is arbitrarily fuck defensive cores - they limit you to being able to run leftovers on only one and for the other you have to probably make some kind of compromise of using something that functions passably with eviolite or berries instead of what you might optimally use in that role. It's just retarded.
