I'm doing Randomized Black right now and my luck is just awful. Yesterday I lost all my pokemon except Politoed, which was my starter, to the outside of Pinwheel Forest. And my wellspring cave catch, a Wobuffett with Shock Wave and Confusion, died immediately in its first battle. Earlier than that, my encounter for the Dreamyard was a Charmeleon, and I had Drake the Roselia in the lead. I thought I was faster. I was wrong, and it OHKOd it with a fucking BLUE FLARE. At least I got a Conkeldurr in the Pinwheel forest Interior which is wrecking face.

Welp, it's up to you. You've got the poison already with Crobat, unless you're going with a fully flying moveset. IIRC, Vileplume does have better Sp.A, though, so there's that. It also learns Petal Dance, which is one of my favourite grass moves, and I've swept the E4 with it in 3 lockes now. I don't think I've ever had this issue about multi-evolutions in a locke except for when I try to figure out an eeveelution, though, so it's a little bit of a conundrum.

I was thinking of doing a Fighting Mono-Type run on Platinum.
Since there's only 7 Pokemon I can use the entire game, is making it a Nuzlocke too a good idea?
Assuming I catch every single one, all it takes is 2 deaths and I won't have a team of 6.
Are there any alternatives? Like maybe keeping the "catch only the first Pokemon" rule but instead of Pokemon dying, they're boxed until the next gym leader is beat.
or do I just suck it up and go full Nuzlocke.

I've actually been playing around with an idea like this. It would require more limitations to make it actually challenging, but I could see it as a nice stress-lite Nuzlocke mode. Maybe implementing a bunch of extra rules could help make it difficult (stuff like no shared types, no healing items, only one or two attacking moves per mon, etc.) Ideas?

Maybe some more flavor-based restrictions could help make this challenge fun. So why can't you use Pokemon until you beat a gym leader in this challenge? Does it mean they're "injured" and can't come back for a while? Does it mean they've overtrained and are tired? Are KO'd Pokemon stolen by the Gym Leader and returned after you've beaten them?

Another separate potential challenge could be a "rental" challenge, where you have to send KO'd pokemon into wonder trade, and you can use what you get back if it's lower level than what you sent out (ie your level 24 Pikachu gets knocked out, you wondertrade it and end up with a level 20 Dustox. You're allowed to use it during the challenge. Later Dustox gets KO'd at level 26 and you receive a level 50 Charizard. Can't be used.)

Well the fact alone that it's a Fighting Mono-Type means it will be pretty difficult, as my entire team will have the same weaknesses.
Also, like I've said, there's only 7 Pokemon with the Fighting type in Platinum. Unlike the average Nuzlocke, one Pokemon dying is detrimental the the entire game.
I think it helps with the "if a Pokemon dies, it's boxed until the next gym leader is defeated" rule implemented but it won't be that much easier because of my severe lack of usable Pokemon and because I have to defeat a gym leader to reuse any of my fallen Pokemon.

I suppose this is a possibility. Thankfully the old Exp. Share is in Platinum so using that on the lower level mons who were previously knocked out is an option.

Sorry I can't help you with implementing that rule in a normal Nuzlocke. As hard as I've tried, I just can't think of adding a rule like that into a Nuzlocke without either making it way to easy or making the game boring.

Just started my Fighting Mono-Type of Pokemon Platinum.
It's just going to be me and Champanzee for a while.
To go a little more in depth with the "Knock Out" rule, the intention wasn't to be able to do risky plays and sacrifice mons at gym leader battles, I'll be doing the complete opposite and trying my hardest to make sure nobody dies.
The point to the rule is that because there isn't many Pokemon I can use there might be a point where only 2 of them are alive and the rest have been knocked out.
Instead of giving up, if I'm able to defeat a gym leader with only those 2 Pokemon then I can bring back the Pokemon who have been knocked out. This makes it both challenging and fun if I'm able to pull that kind of stuff off.

The next pokemon I fought after him was also a pikachu. I think luck is coming in to give me a false sense of hope.
I just found out both Violas pokemon have a weakness to lightning so this should be a breeze.

Nearly lost Pikachu due to a critical hit and infestation but he pulled through with a lucky as hell paralasis, thank you based static.

I also changed the rules a bit.
To make sure I don't just sacrifice mons to make the gym leader battles easier only to revive those Pokemon straight after I win, I now have it that the rule does not apply to Pokemon who faint during gym leader battles. If a Pokemon faints during a gym leader battle, I have to wait until I beat the next gym to revive them.
Also, a question to anyone who cares and assuming I get this far, should the last gym be the final "revive" spot or should there be a final one before the E4?

I've reached Victory Road in my AS nuzlocke and it's occurred to me that I'm quite a bit underleveled. I could have easily suffered a wipe on the first trainer. So I obviously need to grind.

My main dilemma is this: I don't know of any good spots in Hoenn to grind my team up to beat both Victory Road and the Elite Four, I want to be at least around level 60 before I challenge the League, I just have no way to get there. Any suggestions?

Memes the Bellsprout, level 20, sacrificed to Whitney's Miltank so I could heal Flaaffy

and my team was:

Lv 15 P-Neck (Pineco)
Lv 16 Oldspice (Cleffa (Starter))

My levels were higher but it was a close battle because lolpineco and lolcleffa. Luckilly the death count is still at 0!

Got swept by the lv.16 Moon Rat, as I forgot about it. Started over with another bulba. Just my luck, the SECOND encounter in Mt. Moon was a clefairy. Fellow Red Cometmander chooser here. I just grinded a little bit in Viridian Forest until I knew Char could Metal Claw Brock's Onyx in two shots. That was around level... 15. It evolved after the fight. Real nice.

It's hardmode by virtue of having no super effective moves. Squirtle and Bulbasaur can one-man the entire gym without any training as soon as they get STAB moves.
